There are times when the Earth stops moving and the weight of its gravity pulls you down, deeper than you ever thought possible. You tumble farther than you ever imagined falling…
And when the sun goes black and your heart feels empty, starting over seems like an impossible feat…

You’re not alone.

Review @ Vanilla & Spice Books

Begin Again is a big bundle of stories full of hope, love and inspiration. The authors have come together to put the spotlight on a serious topic, suicide and its prevention. There is no formula you can apply to each suicide case, it comes in all heartbreaking, devastating forms with all it's different tragic reasons. Begin again tells some of those stories in bit-sized shorties you can read in between breakfast and getting ready for work. They are excellent, heartfelt and emotional.

IT STARTED WITH SUMMER

by Ginger Scott

Ginger Scott never disappoints. Ever. She has a knack for writing something special in the span of a couple of chapters and packs so much in it that afterwards you feel like you've read a whole novel.

Megan struggles with her parents' divorce and like all teenagers acceptance of her future stepdad is hard to come by. She just can't, it still hurts that her mother found somebody else. Good thing she meets a cute life guard on vacation who shows her that she isn't alone in her pain. Chris, too, is a child of two separated parents.

Megan and Chris behave like teenagers and that's how it's supposed to be. Chris is really sweet and understanding and with his help and her future stepdad's patience she starts to find joy again, not only in Chris but also her mom's new man in her life. Megan isn't defiant without reason, she just reacts to the new situation.

No matter what Ginger writes, she always hits the mark with me. This is a little gem of a short story with which the author proves her immense talent yet again.

“Still the cutest girl I’ve ever met,” he says, the same raspy voice only older, matured.

BREAKING POINT
by Autumn Grey

Mason and his parents moved away from Layton to give them all a new start after Mason's boyfriend committed suicide. Things at home aren't great, his father isn't dealing very well with the fact that Mason is gay.

In his new school he keeps locking eyes with a guy who clearly is wrong for him because he the epitome of straight. Never mind all those mixed signals Asher gives him. Mason befriends Asher's twin sister Addison. When Mason invites Asher and Addison over for dinner it has disaster written all over it - his dad will be there. Plus, he has to get a handle on his increasing attraction to the straight guy.

"At night, when I lie in bed, I think about you, Mason. I can’t help it. I think about your stupid smirk and your stupid touch that seem to burn through my skin.”

Breaking Point is a sweet little story with a spunky, a little pushy gay hero and a guy who doesn't want to analyze his feelings and attraction for Mason. It ends with a promise of so much more. I love that it doesn't have a happily ever after but leaves room for your imagination. It definitely ends on a hopeful note. I would have liked to know what went down with Mason's dead boyfriend since it was touched on it but not elaborated.

I always wanted to read on of Autumn Grey's stories and now I know I'll go back for more. She knows how to draw you right into the story. Her writing style is youthful and very straight forward, I love that. Conclusion: a new author to stalk!

With him, I feel the darkness in me recede.

THE PIT
by Mara White

This story is a little different from the others I read.
Joe is a cop. He is one of those who helped clean up Manhattan after 9/11. He breathed the dust of concrete and thousands of dead people.

He has been in therapy for PTSD but once you've been in the crazy bin your co-workers at the precinct don't look at you the same way.

Basically, If you're dead, you're a hero. If you survive and need help for your wounded mind you're alone. Nobody takes you seriously, you're the butt end of tasteless jokes.

Joe's saving grace comes in the form of another wounded soul. Together, they'll make it. I'm sure of it.

This story is so painful, it made my heart ache. Joe's descriptions are detailed and I commend the author for how authentic the whole story feels. I think I'm going to have a drink now and hug somebody.

*FALLING by Stephanie Rose*

I have have just finished reading, 'Falling,' a and beautiful romance that's part of the, 'Begin Again,' anthology.

'Falling,' is so very lovely and centres around Jack, a child character from, 'After You,' who is all grown up, handsome, sexy and charismatic.

I shed tears during the first couple of chapters, so many of my emotions are tied up with this character as a result of reading, 'After You.' The beginning of his story and the impetus for the narrative touched my heart so very much.

The development has the perfect pace for a romantic short story whose characters who are easy to connect with and feel for. I felt the chemistry between the hero and heroine and longed for them to be with each other.

Jack is a character I love and was so excited when I knew Stephanie Rose was giving us a story about him, my only complaint, I could have read so much more about him..... I didn't want the story to end.

I’ve begun reading this anthology. While I’m only two stories in, the two I’ve read were great. I look forward to reading more......

Falling- by Stephanie Rose

A novella about Jack from After You. I loved it. I loved seeing Jack grown up and facing a problem that could alter his life forever. The author brought in the family and introduced us to someone from his past. A beautiful plan of second chance love. There was one line in this story that rings true of a lot of relationships......
“He’s not the first guy to notice his friend’s little sister.”

A sweet loving novella that put a smile on my face❤️❤️❤️

It Started One Summer by Ginger Scott

My first Ginger Scott read and it was touching. Divorce on kids is never easy. Written from a 15 year olds point of view, the story is emotional and sweet. Learning to live without a parent, learning to not feel guilty and just learning to adapt to new new normal is all seen then the eyes of Megan. And on top of all this, a cute boy catches her eye...... l look forward to reading more by this author.

Admittedly, I didn't read every short in this anthology. But isn't that the beauty of these compilations? To jump around, reading a few here and there, shelving the rest for another time, for when you really need a little something? In this case, that 'something ' is hope. So that's what I've done. I've read through a few stories, got to revisit a few of my favorite authors, was introduced to a few authors I've not yet read before, and I'll set it aside to read a few more later.

I went into this anthology expecting dark and heavy. Sure, there's a lot of that to be found here. This anthology is about despair, about hopelessness, about feeling like things will never be okay again. But each story is a brief reminder that things do get better. There is hope to be found on these pages. There is joy to be found. There are silver linings and there is healing and there's even some sweet romance. But the biggest message, the most important one, is that it gets better.

Mara White's dark and gritty story of a police officer plagued by horrific memories of 9/11 was all too real. White delivers a harrowing story of trauma through a fresh perspective that demands the reader will be profoundly effected.

Ginger Scott's YA short story of a teenager struggling through her parent's divorce is both relatable and sweet. Heartache, confusion, and wholly authentic teen angst are lightened by the newness of first love. I can only hope there might be more for these characters down the road.

Stephie Walls, a new to me author, carries us through the grief and hopelessness of a serviceman unable to overcome his personal losses. Walls' no holds barred novella is more than a story of tragedy and healing, but it's also a frank look at the need for improved resources for our servicemen and women dealing with mental illness and trauma.

Rebecca Yarros' forward is perhaps the most moving part of this anthology. Her candid honesty is a blatant reminder that, not only do we never truly know what a person is dealing with, but that if we don't give up, if we allow ourselves to get help, it will get better. These stories are difficult to read but they're so important, so hopeful, so relatable. Begin Again is a beautifully poignant compilation of short stories that serve as a reminder that it does, in fact, get better.

What an incredible anthology! This collection is as heartbreaking as it is uplifting and is not to be missed!

description

*Falling* by Stephanie Rose

More! I need MORE! Fans of Stephanie Rose may recognize Jack Jr. from After You, but he's not a little boy any more. Jack is now all grown up and ready to break hearts! The start of this story was emotional and had me tearing up a bit (that father & son talk nearly did me in!), but it was such a sweet and beautiful romance too. I loved the added element of taboo by making Danielle (Dani) the little sister of Jack's childhood friend. The gradual build up was perfect and Jack and Dani's connection felt natural and organic. It was wonderful to have little cameo's from some of Stephanie Rose's previous characters as well and I really hope that we see more of Jack and Dani in the future.

*A Hypochondriac's Notebook* by AM Johnson

AM Johnson continues to stun me with the power of her words. Seemingly simple sentences coming together and grabbing your heart and your emotions. This story was so genuine and heartfelt. I was transfixed by the story unfolding in front of me. I could feel the pain and vulnerability seeping from the pages, but also the hope and joy. I think all readers will relate to this story on some level and that's what makes it so incredible.
"I've learned that I am not defined by the marks I've gained over the years. I am built by them, beautiful and strong and because of them - the good things - the happy moments - are that much better."

*Waiting for Autumn* by JA DeRouen

Gah! I completely fell in love with this story! I was hooked from page 1 and am so invested in Seb and Autumn that I am PRAYING there will be more!

description

This little novella hit all my check boxes (and even threw in a best friend's little sister for good measure!):

childhood friends to lovers - check
second chance romance - double check
sweet and swoony hero - triple check

Of course, it was WAY too short for my liking, but it set up the possibility of exploring these characters further in the future. Even if this is the last we ever hear of Autumn and Seb, the ending leaves you with what I feel is the overall message of this anthology - hope.

*The Pit* by Mara White

This one was not an easy read. It was gritty and dark and heartbreakingly brutal. It added another layer to the horrific events of 9/11. I loved the honesty and tiny details that created such a profound impact. The ending brought everything full circle and created an incredibly emotional short story.

Falling by Stephanie Rose

5 "I had a feeling I was falling again..." Stars

This short story was such a great way to start 2018. A character for whom I adored as a child in Stephanie Rose's previous title "After You" gets his own shot at happiness now that he's grown into a charismatic adult. It felt like going home reconnecting with characters from a previous story in a whole new way. Even if I hadn't known the history here the story is perfect for readers being introduced to Rose's romantic storytelling style. Jack Taylor finds himself in a place he didn't have planned. With his life veering off course he's reunited with someone from his past. I loved the chemistry between these two and felt that their courtship was just right for a short story. The ending makes me want to read more, more, more about them but in a curious way rather than a cliffhanger way. Stephanie Rose provided just enough for satisfaction in her story while hooking readers into the attraction of her story. Her penchant for romance leaves you craving more of her characters always because you feel like your an intimate part of their journey.

I haven’t been able to read every story in this anthology yet, but the ones I have read so far have all been outstanding, and left me wanting more, more, more! Lots of feels, lots of emotions, lots of heart.

Waiting For Autumn by J.A. DeRouen~ Oh my heart! I need more of Autumn and Seb, stat! This story was heartbreaking but hopeful. How one moment can totally change the course of not one, but 3 people, and how you move on. Or do you? I’m so excited that we will be getting more of the characters, hopefully in the not-too-distant future!

Falling by Stephanie Rose~ How fun to see Jack, Jr all grown up! He’s hit a rough patch but, like his dad and uncle, he’ll come through it stronger and better than ever. It was so great to catch up with Nick and Ellie, even if it was just for a quick minute. There’s potential here for more of Jack and Dani, so we’ll see!

Breaking Point by Autumn Grey~ Ahhh, Mason and Asher! These two stole my heart and I need, NEED, need more of their story, this was such a tease Ms. Grey! A special little story about learning who you are, accepting who you are, no matter what anyone else thinks.

Eden’s Goodbye by Faith Andrews~ I’ll be honest, I haven’t been able to bring myself to finish this story- I tear up every time I try. This is a prequel of sorts to Garden of Goodbyes, so if you’ve read that you’ll understand where I’m coming from. I’ll get through it, one of these days.

if this sampling of stories is the quality of what's left for me to read I'm making it a priority to get this anthology finished, asap! Wonderful story telling for a wonderful cause.

Loss. Pain. Survival. Second chances. Begin Again: An Anthology is a wonderful combination of short stories that give hope to even the darkest of situations. Not only that but the proceeds go to a charity that speaks to my heart.

The authors that contributed to this anthology are extremely talented and brought the emotional to each and every story. I rarely cry, that’s a fact. I feel the emotions and I connect with the characters, but it is hard to move me to tears with a fictional story. This anthology had the tears pouring. Just remembering has my eyes misting.

These stories are for those that have suffered trying to survive after life has toss them upside down, but it is also for those that are left behind in the aftermath of those who do not get their second chance. Whether you connect with every story or only one, I hope that you take away from this collection the same thing I did; that life is worth living and there is always, ALWAYS a second chance to begin again.

This Anthology has some topics that can be tough but the stories are beautiful in their own way. Some are extraordinarily sad, some are funny and some are also hot but they are all well written and all funds raised go to a fantastic cause.

Reprieve
A broken returned veteran finds his way through grief and self sabotage with the help of a kindred soul.

The Pit
A heartbreaking story of one cop's survival after 911 changed his life forever.

A Hypochondriac's Notebook
I really enjoyed this quirky story. The guy who shakes you up enough to find your happy. A girl who's brave enough to do it.

The Tides of Life
This was a story that was equally sad and sweet. I loved the pace of the story and Evan was just the man Maggie needed to heal her heart.

Regarding Ryker
Ryker and Addison's short love story intrigued me and I am looking forward to their full story next year.

Something New
A sweet story about beating addiction and finding a second chance at love.

Something Beautiful
Emmie Carmichael has had a rough year. She deserves some happy and a few Os... will Beau be the one to give them to her??

It Started with Summer
Oh how I love Ginger Scott's writing. I don't think any author captures that feeling of young butterflies in the tummy kind of love like her. Megan and Chris get one summer together at a time when both their lives are changing. I smiled the whole way through this story. This short story was perfect. Just perfect ❤️

Breaking Point
I am a big fan of Autumn Grey's writing and this novella didn't disappoint. M/M is my weakness and she captured the feelings of YA honest/raw need perfectly.

Mason is a fantastic character - you can feel his pain, his sense of loss and also his strength. He knows exactly who he is. Asher is the school golden boy, seemingly on track for a bright future, everyone's favourite, but inside he's lost.

Very quickly these two young men are unable to fight their attraction and the few encounters we get of them together left me wanting so much more. I cannot wait for their full story.

🔥🔥 Asher Frickin Turner is EVERYTHING!!!

There are a few books that you read in your lifetime that will forever hold a special place in your heart.. Begin Again is one of those books for me. When I saw that this book was in the process of being written I couldn't have been more excited... Why? Well because each book holds it own special meaning.. Each book has a way of reaching in to your heart and mending it. Why? Each story has a way of making you Begin Again.
The proceeds to go to a very special cause that is very close to my heart. As a mom of a suicidal teen, the programs helped us know that there was help out there... Help that saved my daughters life, three times. So, to each and every author that played a part in this anthology, I thank you.. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!!!!! You have helped us see that it is ok to BEGIN AGAIN!!!!!!!

Such a fantastic collection of stories for suicide prevention and awareness! My favorite stories were by A.M. Johnson and Josephine Brierley, I loved their messages of overcoming obstacles and learning to love yourself. I didn't get to read all of the stories in this anthology but I can tell you there's a little of something for everyone. An emotional second chance romance from J.A. DeRouen, and related stories from previous books/spinoffs from Stephanie Rose, Amanda Richardson and Faith Andrews. I hope to read a few more stories, but hope that everyone takes a chance and buys this book to help raise money for this important cause.

I love anthologies that support a cause, and Begin Again certainly supports a worthy one. It started with a powerful foreword by Rebecca Yarros that touched me deeply and gave credence to the cause. I haven’t read all of the short stories yet, but the ones I have read I will review.

Falling by Stephanie Rose- it’s no secret that I am a huge fan of Stephanie Rose, but her writing keeps getting better. This is Jack Jr’s story. He gets injured in a fire and runs into Dani, a childhood friend’s younger sister, while going through rehab. I loved these characters (and the appearance of Evan ❤️)! Not only do we get to catch up with some of my favorite characters, but we see the lengths that firefighters go to in order to do their job.

Waiting for Autumn by JA DeRouen- this book shattered me! It introduces Sebastian and Autumn, childhood sweethearts. See is best friend’s with Autumn’s brother, and is connected to an accident that causes Brady to become paralyzed. This ends things with Autumn, and Seb carries the guilt with him. We witness Seb try to move on, but lost in the past. I hope we get more from these two (and Brady?)!

Reprieve by Stephie Walls- such a heartbreaking story! I don’t know how someone moves in from the loss of a child, but we get Matt’s story. He can’t move on from his son’s death, and he attempts to take his life, as well as turns to alcohol to cope. He eventually lands in rehab where his nurse supports his recovery. As the child of an alcoholic mother, this story resonated with me. And if you’ve read other books from Stephie Walls, you nay remember a brief appearance from Matt.

I highly recommend this anthology, not just for the writing (although that’s enough of a reason), but to support the American Association for Suicide Prevention.

Begin Again Anthology is a collection of short stories.
KK Allens story Sweet Melody was a wonderful follow-up to Wolf and Lyric's duet and I absolutely loved it. I loved that we get to see what happens after the HEA ending in their novel. An amazing chapter that made me smile, it was awesome.

Falling by Stephanie Rose was a sweet story of overcoming adversity and realizing what's important in life. Jack was charming and you could see why Danielle was infatuated with him from small. These two had chemistry and I wish it was a bit longer. I really enjoyed it.

First of all I want to say that it's amazing that all of these authors have come together to write stories for a cause like this. As it states in the description, all proceeds go to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and NAMI.

After that I do want to warn people that these stories aren't for everyone. There are definitely some triggers.

This anthology has 21 short stories, so instead of writing a super long review I will post my reviews of the first three stories. After that I will be posting my review to 3-4 stories at a time every week on the blog. I will edit my review on here with the links!

Before I get to the stories, I just want to say something about the amazing forword Rebecca Yarros wrote. I think she’s incredibly brave for sharing her story the way she did and I can’t imagine how hard it is to put that on paper.

Reprieve – Stephie Walls

We meet Matt who has lost his son and fiance in a sudden way. Before dealing with his pain, he is deployed. To deal with the pain he starts to drink. There are two suicide attempts and with that he also loses his career. After the second attemot he is in the hospital when his nurse gets through to him.

“The moment I went into counseling, the second a doctor diagnosed my depression, my career would be over. I’d lose my security clearance, be stripped of my rank and I’d be a desk jockey at best. I’d never see any action again. That along with the death of my child would end my world.”

Part of me is sad to think how many soldiers are just expected to suck it up, while mental health is so important. I wonder how many would be saved if it got just a little more attention. The beautiful thing about this story is that sometimes all it takes is one person that is willing to listen at the right moment and doesn’t judge.

The Pit – Mara White

Working for the NYPD during 9/11 really does something to a person. Seeing things you will never forget and realizing it will haunt you in more ways than one is not something you realize. Joe is starting to realize this. After two suicide attempts, he is sentenced to reduced duty and is having a hard time dealing. As a cop you’re not supposed to be weak. His wife lied about where he was when he was admitted and since being back his colleagues treat him terribly.

“Cops ain’t coll with mental illness. They see it as a sign of weakness. No one would ever want to be your partner, much less walk the beat with you. Once you crack they try to take you down. It’s like some fucked-up fraternity, or worse, like a second-rate, government-run mafia.”

It’s sad that after doing something heroic in an awful time, he is being treated terribly by people who should understand him the most. Another story that proves mental illness needs a lot more attention. It’s sad that after going through something so traumatic, you’re seen as weak if it haunts you. This is exactly why we need stories like these. So many people need to be educated on what mental illness is!

A Hypochondriac’s Notebook – A.M. Johnson

Amanda didn’t have the easiest childhood. Her father was abusive and she lost faith in herself. She almost lost the battle, but managed to pull herself up, with the help of her best friend. After that life had its ups and downs. There were times she did well and other times there was more anxiety and issues. Meeting and being with Torren helped her though. She learned that she didn’t need a man to lift her up, but herself. Having a husband who loves her is amazing, but she knows she needs herself just as much.

“I’m thirty-eight years old, and my skin is written with so many scars. I’ve chosen to wear them like a soldier wears a Purple Heart. My life has wounded me, but I’ve learned that I am not defined by the marks I’ve gained over the years. I am built by them, beautiful and strong and because of them – the good things – the happy moments – are that much better.”

I can’t imagine how hard it is growing up with an abusive parent when the rest of the world thinks he’s amazing. I can only imagine what that does to how you feel about yourself. I don’t think I would’ve ever gone home with a stranger like that, but in the end I think it saved her. I think it’s amazing and brave she realized she needs herself to be happy, nobody else.

I finished the anthology and was so please with it! Some of my favorite indie authors have entries that tie into existing stories or stories that are headed our way. All were enjoyable reads and I gladly met new to me authors.

1/11/18
I am still reading the anthology, but have enjoyed the stories a good deal. The stories in the anthology are a mixed bag. Some are stand alone short stories, some the beginnings of books that haven't been published yet. All of the contributions show at least the beginning of a second chance.
It's a collection for a good cause and a great way to sample new authors.

Falling -
This has to be my favorite so far! Ms Rose gives us a glimpse of Jack Jr from her previous books - don’t worry, this story stands alone. But, he’s definitely crush worthy just like his uncle Evan and Dad, Nick! This is a sweet story - two wounded people helping each other to find their way back

Reprieve-
A quick story about the power of having someone root for you while you battle your demons.

The Pit -
A hard story about 9/11 first responders and the issues left behind that horrible day.

A hypochondriac’s notebook
This is on the darker side, but definitely has a good message about being the one to lift yourself up instead of relying on others

The tides of life -
A sweet story about dealing with survivor’s guilt and reaching a place where you can let that go to move on

Regarding Ryker -
I’m not really sure what to think - this is the prequel for a book that is coming soon. It’s an intriguing tease.

Something new -
A sweet short story about creating a new life after taking wrong turns.

Something beautiful -
Cute story about starting over- makes me want to read more of Emmie’s story

Fortuitous - a little tease of a story about a young woman embracing the second chance at love

Believers - this one I didn’t get.

Your mess is mine - a cute beginning that makes me curious about the book it belongs to.

Such great authors in this book, I was happy to see so many I have read before and a few I have been meaning to start reading, I love the idea and I love that it does support " *All Proceeds will be donated to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and NAMI* " ...so it is pretty well said that mental health and suicide will be chatted about and so forth if that might be a trigger for you, know it is there. I would not say that this is a happy read. But it does have light bits throughout. It is not a book that you will devour immediately, I think it is a book that supports and uplifts in sections, mental health should be something that folks talk about more often than not. So important and folks who deal with it (or the families that are around or subject to their loved ones needing extra support during those hard rough tough times.) should not be quieted ... it is something that deserves respect and understanding. gorgeous cover.

A haunting take on life and the realities of depression and anxieties, A Hypocondriac's Notebook tells the tale of a girl just trying to make it. We feel her highs and lows in a completely relatable and haunting narrative by AM Johnson. This is the only story I've read out of the anthology so far, and I can't wait to read more.

This is yet another stellar group of authors who have come together to bring us their very best in a small amount of words. Here are the novellas I have read so far and my thoughts:

The Pit by Mara White

Holy smokes. This story gutted me. Taking place after 9/11, this is one man's tale of his emotional issues since he was a first responder to the tragedy that changed his life and our lives forever. The pain Joe endures daily at both the memories of what he had to see as the rubble was brought to the surface combined with how he is now treated by his fellow police officers was heartbreaking. And yet the author manages to pull some hope out of the despair as Joe finds another soul who might just be hurting more than he ever could imagine. This one is as powerful a read as a full-length novel. Truly well done I give The Pit a huge 5 stars.

It Started With Summer by Ginger Scott

A very sweet yet emotional short story about one summer that changes everything Megan feels about her life and her future after her parents' divorce. Meeting Chris and his father, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome but is a master carpenter, changes her outlook on Chad, the man who will soon be her stepdad and the realization that life isn't all that bad even when things aren't the way they used to be. I enjoy YA and this one made me smile. With an ending that gives us a look at Megan 3 years into the future, I could definitely read more from the girl who found the light in her dark all with the boy who called her cute one lonely summer. 5 wonderful stars!

Waiting for Autumn by J.A. DeRouen

This beautiful little story broke my heart as Sebastian Kelly grieves for a life changed in an instant and the love he's never forgotten. Told in past and present, no one could have foreseen the day when Seb and his best girl Autumn, together with the third in their crazy trio, her brother Brady, would see their worlds crash and burn as a dare gone terribly wrong puts the course for their futures at a standstill. Beautifully written this one, despite all the guilt felt by Seb and his subsequent vanishing act from his small town in Louisiana, is full of hope that perhaps we gain a bit of perspective as we age. Five years later and maybe Seb can find his way back to the love of his life and his best friend. There is true forgiveness that is at times a bit painful for all parties involved but may just be worth it in the end. Waiting for Autumn is worthy of 5+++ stars!

Breaking Point by Autumn Grey

A YA M/M story, the author bravely ventures into this genre for the first time and does a wonderful job! Mason is the new kid at school, his sexuality is not public knowledge and yet does he want to pretend he is something he is not. His interest in Asher Turner escalates in a short period of time and the hunky football player somehow finds himself becoming Mason's new friend, along with his twin sister Addison. There is a significant push and pull between these two each giving mixed signals to one another, and that creates some pretty wild tension you can't help but get caught up in. And in turn, there is extreme confusion on Asher's part since he can't explain how a supposed straight guy could be attracted to the likes of Mason. But the author played it exactly at how I would imagine such an attraction would play out when one person is straight and the other is gay. Their chemistry is undeniable and their stolen kisses were extremely hot! I can only hope we get more of Asher and Mason and their burgeoning romance in the future. I give Breaking Point a HUGE 5 stars!

Eden's Goodbye by Faith Andrews

For those of us who have read Garden of Goodbyes, this is a prologue of sorts, giving us the time we didn't get to witness before, when Eden felt compelled to leave after the discovery of the ultimate betrayal and how she coped being alone in a new city with a new job, leaving Violet and Lennox behind.
The author beautifully captures the endless pain Eden suffered at the hands of her beloved boyfriend and her sister. This woman is as selfless as they come and yet nothing could have prevented the trainwreck she was forced to leave behind. Her new existence is softened by the good nature of her newly-crowned bestie in Joy and a very compassionate boss in Mason. I felt the heartache all over again at what Eden had to endure at the hands of her loved ones and how alone she truly felt. But the hope she manages to conjure up for herself was akin to seeing a neglected flower bloom. As we are left what will happen next, that being the beginning to her journey in Garden of Goodbyes, I'm reminded just how skillful this author is in relaying heartbreak in such a powerful way. I am very glad I got to read more of Eden and her life post-heartache and give Eden's Goodbye a rousing 5 stars!

I am hoping to read the rest of this anthology and I honestly can't recommend this collection highly enough. With a very honest forward by Rebecca Yarros, Begin Again will make you believe that even the worst of times in our lives can always get better.

5 Cranky Stars

I’ve always been a strong supporter of mental healthcare. Even in modern times while it’s so widely accepted it’s also so taboo. We suffer in silence, we doubt our existence and we wonder if we could have helped someone who suffered silently to just suddenly end it all. I have experience this all first hand for I suffer with mental illness and have been touched by suicide that even 4 years later I still cry and wonder what if and how didn’t I see it?

AM Johnsons story really resonated with me. Anna Josh is an outsider with dark thoughts until she meets a boy who pulls her out of her despair. It’s about how we get stuck in the rut and while we may think and doubt ourselves there is always someone to help anchor you. The Tides of Life by Josephine Brierley we see the journey of a wedding planner coping with the loss of her one true love and trying to find love again. Telling herself it’s ok to move on you aren’t tarnishing a memory if you do. KK Allen even gives up a glimpse into the Dangerous Hearts world with Wolf and Lyric. M Never gives us a story of miscarriage and loss and having an angel appear just when you need it.

This anthology brings us all a little something. From PTSD, suicide, and depression. I had tears at time and some stories just hit me in the soul. I’ve had so many of these feelings and I think this will be a good book for many. Rather you suffer from this or know someone who does its good insight and makes you feel not so alone. Smile big beautiful souls there will always be a light maybe not now but there will be. All proceeds of this book go to suicide prevention charities.

This Anthology is a collection of short stories about hope, healing and love. When you think you have hot rock bottom and you think there is no way forward, something helps you push through the darkness and helps you heal your soul. I have written three reviews about three of the stories included in this Anthology.

A Hypochondriac’s Notebook by AM Johnson

This story is heart wrenching. Anna comes from an abusive family life which sent her to many attempts on her life. She writes journals about her feelings and things that happen around her. One day she is given hope, she finds what she believes is love. Will this help her through? I wasn’t expecting the twist, I didn’t think that was going to happen at all. I really loved this story, it was completely heart wrenching but at the end completely heart warming. Loved it.

Regarding Ryder by Anne Jolin

This short story is a prequel to a full length novel of the Rock Falls Legacy series. Ryker and Addison have been in love with each other for a long time, since they were small. They always knew they would marry each other. So why does Ryker have to say goodbye? Well written and makes me anticipate the release of Addison and Ryker’s story.

Sweet Melody by K.K Allen

This short story is the extended epilogue to the duet A Stolen Melody Duet. Wolf is a rock star and spends time away a lot. Lyric is a song writer. Happily together living their lives after the happenings from the book duet, they embark on a new adventure. A lovely epilogue filled with hope and a new future.

I am currently reading “Begin Again – An Anthology”. I haven’t finished all of the stories yet. I’ll update as I go.

Sweet Melody – K.K. Allen
Ok so I didn’t start at the beginning, I had to start with “Sweet Melody” because I’ve been anxiously waiting for more of Lyric and Wolf’s story from the Dangerous/Destined Hearts duet. The little glimpse into their future was so sweet and told so perfectly. I wish it could have been longer, but I’m a bit greedy and was hoping for maybe 400 pages or so. ;) I hope in the future we might get to see more glimpses of Lyric and Wolf . hint hint.
To appreciate Sweet Melody, you’ll want to read the Dangerous/Destined Hearts duet first. After you do, you’ll probably be looking up everything else K.K. Allen has written so you can read that too! That’s what happened to me.

Reprieve – Stephie Walls
This is the first thing I’ve read from this author and I really enjoyed the short story. It was a story of love, loss, addiction, and forgiveness. I haven’t had an addiction problem myself, but some of the people I love have. It’s really hard to try and help someone with their struggles when then don’t want to or cant help themselves. I thought the author did a really good job describing the struggles and pain of addiction.

The Pit – Mara White
This was a tough one for me. I struggled through reading it. Not because the writing wasn’t good, but probably it was too good and made it too real for me. 9/11 stories are hard to read, but they’re important to be told.

I was given an ARC for my honest review but I will also be purchasing this book because the money is going to a great cause.

Sweet Melody by K.K. Allen it was wonderful!!

This author always treat her readers like royalty, giving us the treatment of Queens.

Having like a little epilogue from Wolf and Lyric was like a day on the SPA. It was amazing, I feel so good and happy. These couple is one of my fav, when i bought the books I didn’t have enough time to read it fast.

I would love to beg to this author for more, for more passion, for more love and for more Wolf! That sexy bad boy will be forever one of my fav! I just loved this!

I was sent Breaking Point by the author Autumn Grey for a review. I loved it. I felt the characters emotions. Mason and Asher felt so real. I teared up many times. Even the father’s emotions felt real to me even if I wanted to scream at him. 😢 I can’t wait to read more!

Falling by Stephanie Rose
5 out of 5 stars
I love that Jack Jr. got his own story! That made my heart so happy when I found out. But then my heart shattered for him after finding out what he had to go through. I could feel his pain and frustration. We always seem to take it out on the ones we love, don't we? I am glad that his father was able to talk a little bit of sense into him though. ;) I loved Danielle's character. It was so cute how she got a little awkward and nervous around Jack.

Waiting for Autumn by JA DeRouen
5 out of 5 stars
Oh my goodness, how this story ripped my heart open. When fun between friends takes a tragic turn - where do you go from there? I felt so badly for everyone involved, especially Sebastian. I can't imagine having to live with that kind of guilt. However, he took the hand that life dealt him and did something with it. I'm so proud that he made something of himself and tried to make amends, even if certain people didn't want to heart it. Autumn and Sebastian were everything I didn't even know I needed! I loved them so much. I hope we get to see more from them in the future because I need to know how things turn out between them!

Eden's Goodbye by Faith Andrews
5 out of 5 stars
Oh my word, I knew this story was going to be painful to read since I read Garden of Goodbyes last year. You could really feel the pain that Eden was going through and my heart broke for her so much. I just wanted to reach through my kindle and give her a massive hug. Joy is absolutely everything! She knew Eden needed someone even though she tried to come across like she didn't and wouldn't take no for an answer. We all need that kind of friend. We all need a Joy in our life. I'm so happy that Eden had Mason and Joy to get her through her difficult time and to move on with her life so she could start living for herself.

I love everything about this anthology. The proceeds go to an amazing cause and the stories are all about how to overcome tragedy or difficulties and start living again. Several of these authors were already on my must read list and I was able to find several new authors to add to my TBR list.

This review is for Falling by Stephanie Rose. First of all, there are not enough words to describe the joy I felt in knowing Jack Jr was getting a story! And was it perfect! (And maybe left me wanting a little bit more!) but anyways. We got Jack, we got a sweet girl, Danielle, for Jack. And we got a glimpse of Nick, Evan, Ellie, and PJ... who all happen to be some of my most favorite characters by Stephanie Rose! But what was even more important bat we got? A story of new beginnings when a kid was falling and at his worst. A group of characters coming together in support of each other. And it all stems down to my favorite favorite boy and an amazing and sweet girl! Gah!!! So much love!!

This review is for A Hypochondriac’s Notebook by A.M. Johnson. Wow!!!! I just, I don’t really know if I have any words for Anna Josh. This girl. She’s battled it all. And she’s put herself right back together and has figured out her life and her happiness. It may not have been pretty but she’s where she’s at now because of her past. It’s messy, it’s not neat, but it’s hers. And it was the beginning she needed when it all seemed to be ending. Just what beautiful words!

This review is for It Started With Summer by Ginger Scott. Sometimes life throws curve balls, things we don’t always want to happen. But it’s the way we embrace what’s happening that ends up giving us, in this case, the best summer ever. Just ask Megan and Chris. And fall in love with them and their families. And then just sit and smile a little after your done reading. Because that’s exactly what I’m doing right now!

This review is for Waiting For Autumn by J.A. DeRouen. What happens when life as you know it is turned upside down and you’re forced into a decision that is one you’ll have to live with even though it sucks? You make the best of it. But then given the chance to rectify that decision you take it. And that is what sweet, sweet Seb does. His best friend and his girl. Brady and Autumn. One moment of stupid fun turns three worlds upside down. But in the end a best friend is a best friend and a brother for life, and the girl? Well that looks like a work in progress but I’m willing to bet it’ll happen. And Brady and Seb? Can I take them both? My heart is so absolutely full after reading this story. Life is meant for new beginnings and starting over. But sometimes, in order to do that you have to go back home and face your past. And facing the two most important people ever.... Brady and Autumn! Gah! Ok I’m done now, even though I could go on and on and oh on some more!!

This review is for Breaking Point by Autumn Grey. I have to admit, I wasn’t expecting this story. I’ve never read a story like Breaking Point. But that being said, I adored it. Life is all about learning who you are an accepting yourself. It may not be in the most conventional way or how your parents or your friends or anyone thinks it should be. At the end of the day you are who you are. And you know what? Mason and Asher, and Addie figured that out exactly. You’ll love this story and you’ll love the characters in it. But most of all, you’ll love the moment when you find yourself rooting so hard for the hero and for him to be happy and for the end of the story!!

This review is for Eden’s Goodbye by Faith Andrews. I fell in love with Eden long before this story. And now even more so. The before part of her story, just my heart right about now!! Life throws gigantic obstacles at you and screws you over. It’s the friends in your life and what you choose to do that puts your life back on course. And sweet, sweet Eden does exactly that. And continues to. And especially with the love and support of Joy and Mason. Life might drag you down but it’s how you choose to beat it and fight that makes all the difference! Just ask Eden!

I may have repeated myself time and time again about the themes and lessons of these stories. But each and every one shows that given the opportunity and the people in your life at any given moment proves the complete opposite of what you think. You really can Begin Again.

I won't lie, I was a bit apprehensive to read an anthology for suicide prevention. The topic makes me itchy. But when I saw the beyond amazing authors that were contributing, I knew I had to swallow my nerves and go for it. Holy wowza with a glitter crown. This book blew my heart. I'll talk a bit about each short story I read...

The foreword alone had me a weepy mess. Rebecca Yarros' words were so powerful and profound. They got me on another level and made me that much more anxious to dive into the collection.

A Hypochondriac’s Notebook by A.M. Johnson:
Where to begin. This story, Anna's story is about love and loss and loving again. Learning to love the pieces of yourself that are imperfect. Letting someone see your fears, faults and all that makes you you and letting them love you because of it.

Falling by Stephanie Rose:
It didn't hurt that it was about Jack who was just a kid the last time I read about him (fingers and toes crossed for more of him down the line). And Dani was great too. She was tough yet tender and just a good person. The right person to bring Jack back from his doom and gloom attitude after an unexpected tragedy. I liked that this focused on changing dreams and what to do when plans change.

Regarding Ryker by Anne Jolin:
This was such a tease! I NEED more of the next generation of Rock Falls!!

Waiting For Autumn by J.A. DeRouen:
Oh my heart. I'm still pretty new to J.A. DeRouen's work but she never fails to pack an emotional punch. I just ached reading about Brady and Autumn and Seb's tragedy. And how the fallout just tore them all apart. But oh how sweet to see how they embraced the new challenges. I love that this one isn't finished (fingers crossed for more of it super soon).

Eden's Goodbye by Faith Andrews:
This short is a hair different because it's a prequel to a book I've already read (Garden of Goodbyes). I know how this story ends. Holy moly did I love this bit of backstory to how all that started. How Eden found a way to hunker down and learn to put herself first. The intensity and emotional turmoil really got to me and I'm thinking a re-read might just be in my future.

I know that these stories are just a sampling of all the powerful and uplifting shorts in this collection. I feel like I said it at after each one I read...I need the whole story, I need more. Because I am a huge sucker for redemption and turning pain into purpose and the Begin Again Anthology is that with a side of romance.
