The Good Luck Charm

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm?

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting absolutely delights with this witty and fun standalone contemporary romance.

Lilah isn't sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career, or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she's no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan Kane wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let him in, though, she finds out their reunion has nothing to do with her and everything to do with his game. But Ethan's already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he'll do anything to keep from losing her again.

I loved this story. Good Luck Charm is a sweet, and heart warming second chance romance that will give you all the feels.

Ethan has returned home to do play for his home town NHL team. More importantly however is that retaining home means reconnecting with his ex Delilah who he left broken hearted.

I have to say that I immediately connected with Delilah and my heart went out to her. Ethan is determined to make her fall in love with him again. But did she ever really stop?

This storyline is captivating and I found myself immersed in these two. Anger, forgiveness, and even doubt play a huge part in this story and it impossible not to get wrapped up in all of it. Throw in an unexpected twist which only adds to this already captivating read and I’m in love.

This may just be my fav read from Helena Hunting yet. A second chance full of ups and downs that will have you glued to the pages.

➳Second chance romances, in a small town with a well known famous hockey player who used to be your true soul-mate don't come every so often, but when fate puts you together in unwanted circumstances, you do not question it...

➳As many know, my love for Helena Hunting is not obscured and I embrace it in any way possible. It's also not a secret that her charisma is one that I adore as well since she is my favorite rom-com author out there. Well, to my surprise with her new novel, the anticipation of getting to read another rom-com went down the drain, in a very good way of course. This angsty, raw, passionate, and at the same time charismatic romance delivers to Helena's readers the true meaning of what one may consider a second chance romance. When Ethan and DJ aka Lilah meet as kids, they become the best of friends and very familiar with each other when it comes down to family and getting to thoroughly know one another. Once they start dating, Lilah and Ethan become inseparable, something that I find rather endearing to read. Friends to lovers romances have always been my favorite, so it's no exception that Helena's newest novel will attract the minds and attentions of her readers with this benevolent love story.

➳After years of being separated, due to the circumstances of Ethan following his NHL career, and Lilah staying behind in their home town trying to find her ideal future in the pre-med world, both individuals are encounter once again by fate bringing them together in an undesirable situation. As they learn the truth of their separation, hearts are broken, opinions are changed, the truth is revealed through the power of raw satisfaction and familiarity between Ethan and Lilah, something you rarely read in a second-chance novel. Ethan is a powerful individual that possesses the inner ability to conquer Lilah's feelings and body reactions in all the very familiar ways. Everything about this romance novel is the ideal perfection of what a sweet, endearing, and tender masterpiece should be;
"I was trying to be logical, because God knows nothing about the way I loved you was rational..."

➳Finding out their inner feelings, those raw feelings that they were not able to express for the past eight years, sprout once they interact first as friends, leading on to lovers that cannot get enough of each other. Helena's writing will never stop amazing me, but it will sure leave the reader with a flabbergasted expression at how wonderfully exciting her writing can be. In every possible way, this is a romance novel you cannot miss.

➳Overall, one cannot go wrong with reading this new stand-alone romance. Helena brings new couples to the pages of a fictional world that will forever have you wanting more and more, crave that individuality that indulges you to the page. If you have not read any of Helena's novels before, than that's alright as there are no spoilers in regards to any other of her romance stories. There is one thing that I did encounter in the midst of reading this new novel, something that took me off-guard but also made me smirk at what Helena did. Meaning to spice it up and letting her reader's know about her new upcoming novel maybe? We shall wait and see to find out!

I love sports/hockey romance and I love second chance romance. Helena Hunting did a fantastic job bringing both of these romances into The Good Luck Charm! I loved that this one had the perfect mix of emotion and humor.

Lilah and Ethan dated in high school. They were in love and it was serious. That is, until Ethan left her to focus on his professional hockey career. Lilah has stayed in town and stayed close to Ethan's family. Now, it's 8 years later and he's back. The attraction is still there between them, so are the feelings. But Lilah is having a hard time trusting Ethan will be there for her when she really needs him. And it seems Ethan will never stop trying to win the one he got away back.

Ethan and Lilah were both great characters. I loved them both from the start. Lilah is a nurse with a huge heart and Ethan is a pro-hockey player who loves his parents and never truly moved past the one love of his life, Lilah. You could feel the chemistry between them. It was like that 8 years never passed. I couldn't wait to see how things would turn out.

If you're looking for a fantastic second chance romance that brings the feels, the laughs, and the steam, pick up The Good Luck Charm! I adored this book!

Well well *crackes knuckles* y'all are in for a rant treat

So here's the thing :
My hormones were at it again and i just NEEDED my dose and fair share of romance, and i've seen this book everywhere since it has been released so i was kinda *low-key* hyped about it,,,, BUT THEN i actually started reading it and boi did i C R I N G E

This book started off with Delilah or Lilah or DJ -or whatever the hell you want to call her- 's day being the absolute WORST and when she thought it couldn't get worstest it actually did, and that was when her last ex-boyfriend showed up
And uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh THAT DUDE IS THE MOST ASSHOLIC DOUCHE EVER
why, you ask? Here's why :

SPOILERSSSS

So there's a scene at the beginning where they get kinda stuck in a wine cellar or something and Lilah has a phobia so she starts panicking and what does our PRINCE CHARMING do to "calm her down" ?? HE FUCKING GRABS HER FACE AND KISSES HER like the fuck does this man thinks he's doing???? (And she made it clear beforehand that she wants nothing to do with him except being friends bc he abounded her back in high school??) SO YOU CAN I MAGINE HOW FUCKING PISSED I WAS

AND

There's a scene where they get pulled over, and Lilah carries on a conversation with the cop, so the male shit in ETHHH*inserts Trump thh meme*an and he realises that she HAD a thing with him and he gets mad?????? like bitch the fuck you expect after breaking up with your lifetime gf over the phone and breaking all the contact ?? Sit and mope about you??? UGH IM MAD
And there's even a line where he says that he doesnt like that she were happy after he left her LMFAO BITCH WHAT

Also, if there's ONE pet name i hate it would be *cringes as she types* "bAbY" and Ethan dude says it like 1258665847 time in this book. (here it's a me-not-you kind of thing)

And i could go on with how assholic this love interest was but i want to erase all that shit from my brain so.

And the one star rating wasn't just because of him but also because of the plot, the characters, and JUST THE WHOLE THING. The characters felt just SO flat and shallow and empty?? (can i even say that?) and the romance WAS JUST THE WORST THING but i survived it,,,, i don't think you could though.

I taste penance in his gentleness. I feel his regret in the tender way his palm curves along my jaw, and I sense his need for forgiveness in the tentative stroke of his tongue.

GOOD LUCK CHARM is a second chance romance filled with angst, heart, and a ton of steam! Helena Hunting has yet again delivered an engaging story with some unforgettable characters. I loved Ethan and Lilah’s story and I felt their sadness over the years they lost together.

Ethan and Lilah were the best of friends since childhood and would later become high school sweethearts. While Ethan was away at college for his freshman year and Lilah was back home finishing out her senior year at High School, Ethan got his shot at the NHL. He made the painful decision to break up with Lilah, thinking it was best for her so that she could pursue her own dreams of becoming a doctor.

Eight years later, Lilah is a nurse and in the process of finalizing a divorce with her ex-husband. Even though she’s not seen Ethan for eight years, she kept in close contact with his parents. They were always like a surrogate family to her since her own parents were less than stellar. When Ethan’s father has a stroke and winds up in her hospital, she comes face to face with the only man who has ever truly had her heart and also broke it beyond repair.

Ethan and Lilah’s reunion is strained. While Ethan wants nothing more than to spend time with Lilah, she is still holding on to so much hurt over how he ended things and then completely disappeared from her life without ever trying to reach out to her. They both are still very much in love with each other and are struggling with all the time they lost. When Lilah realizes that she never gave any other men a chance, including her ex-husband because she was so hung up on Ethan, she decides to open up her heart to him again, but she’s not convinced that he won’t destroy her by abandoning her once more.

As the story progresses, the relationship between Ethan and Lilah intensifies. His need to be with her almost every spare minute that they have is almost beyond obsessive and Lilah seems to lose herself in the process. Before being traded to the team in their hometown of Minneapolis, Ethan’s performance on the ice had been suffering. He’s been on a winning streak and at the peak of his game since being back home and together again with Lilah. Ethan is extremely superstitious and thinks that Lilah is his good luck charm but when she finds that out, it’s not a label she is willing to accept. Her fears of losing Ethan again multiply.

Will these two be able to find a happy balance with their lives and relationship? When the season is over will Ethan leave Lilah behind again if he’s traded??

Here are my overall ratings

Hero: 5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

I love sports romances with sexy hockey players and Helena Hunting has written my most favorite Hockey Romance series of all time. While this one tended to be on the more serious side and was missing her signature humor, it still was one truly unputdownable read!

"This time we only move forward together."

The Good Luck Charm is a heartwarming second chance romance for one very hot professional hockey player and the sweet down-home girl "that got away". Ethan Kane has had great success as a pro hockey player but when an unexpected incident sends him back to his hometown he comes face to face with his old flame Lilah. Lilah has done everything she can to forget about Ethan but now that he is back she can't seem to stay away from him. When the connection between the two reignites, Ethan will do whatever it takes to keep Lilah in his life and this time he is never letting her go.

"It doesn't do me any good to lose my own dream so you can have yours."
Told in multiple POV, The Good Luck Charm is a sweet romance with smoking hot passion. The connection between these two ran deep as they had grown up together. I felt the separation from their past to be a realistic snapshot of what many young lovers face. I found the journey of these two characters to be truly heartfelt. I was glad that Ethan didn't waste any time going after Lilah. And yet, I was even more pleased that Lilah was smart and wanted to ensure that she didn't quit on her own dreams in the process.

"I'm never letting her go again."
Overall, The Good Luck Charm would appeal to readers who love a second chance romance with a perfect blend of sweet and seductive. Ms. Hunting is one of my absolute go-to authors and I am always excited to read her work.

I don't know how many times I have to say this but pushover heroines and second chance romance just do not make a good romance! They just don't! I always end up annoyed and completely embarrassed for the heroine.

This feeling is akin to when you have a friend who keeps on hooking up with their ex-boyfriend despite telling you over and over again that they're done with him. It's just exhausting and annoying.

Can we have more books with strong-willed heroines who don't instantly get their pussy wet over a chiseled abs? Please? It really is about time.

Lilah and Ethan were an item once, back in high school, but he left to pursue professional high school, and she had her heart broken. Now, ten years later, she’s a nurse and his career is floundering. When his father gets sick, and he’s traded back home to Minnesota, they may have a chance for a new start. But with hockey careers, Ethan has no way to know what the future may hold. He may be staying around, or he may be leaving again after one more season. Lilah has an established life in Minnesota, and a career. Does she really want to uproot her life for someone who left her before? I really thought this one was cute. Helena Hunting writes great characters, and this second-chance romance sizzled on-page.

You’re in my soul, Lilah. That will never change.”

This book is comfy yoga pants with a glass of wine, chilling by the pool sort of easy. It has all the warm and fuzzies wrapped in a sweet and steamy second chance romance. It's a light, feel-good sort of read that had a smile on my face from beginning to end.
But nothing could ever prepare me for being this close to the man who took my heart, crushed it, and gave it back to me in pieces.

Ethan and Lilah were childhood friends turned high school sweethearts. They had all the makings of forever, until Ethan left to pursue his professional hockey career and broke Lilah's heart.

Eight years later, Ethan is back, after being traded to the team in his hometown. But he's never forgotten or gotten over Lilah and he's determined to be back in her life. But Lilah never got over the pain this man once caused her. Coming from a broken home with an absentee father, Lilah never lost touch with Ethan's parents, even though their son shattered her fragile heart. I loved the relationship she had with his parents and the way they cared for her as well. But even though his parents adore her and Ethan is swearing he's not the naive boy he was when he left her, Lilah isn't so eager to open her heart to him again.
Nothing you say is going to change the past.” “It could change the future, though.”

I loved the way that Ethan is slow and patient with Lilah. He'll take anything he can, even friendship, while he yearns for more from the girl he never stopped loving. He was such an easy hero to fall in love with. He's sweet and patient, sexy and playful, with this incredibly endearing boyish quality to him that I couldn't get enough of.

I adored their slow burn reconnection and the way that they slowly find back to each other.
He’s slow and careful, he’s sweet and gentle. He’s the boy I fell in love with as a girl, grown into a man I don’t think I ever fell out of love with, between the then and now.

This was such a sweet romance with just the right amount of tension thrown in to make it interesting. There's no crazy drama. No painful angst. Just two people that never stopped loving each other, discovering what it means to love and sacrifice. It was a perfectly charming romance that I recommend to anyone looking for a perfect read to spend a warm summer evening with.

Second chance hockey romance!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💛🖤💜💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🫣🤭🫠😮🥰

The heroine: Lilah (a.k.a. Delilah, a.k.a. D.J.) - a nurse in Minnesota who is looking to further her education. She is having the day from Hell. Starting with losing her keys, to getting her divorce papers, to finding out that the man she came to see as a father after her’s left, had a stroke and is in her hospital.

The Hero: Ethan - an NHL Hockey player, Ethan returns to town after 8 years away due being traded to Minnesota. When his father has a stroke, he is visiting and sees Lilah, who he never really got over.

The Story: Lilah and Ethan were high school sweethearts. They had known each other since they were young children and she thought of his parents like a second set of parents. Ethan broke up with her after high school to focus on his hockey career, breaking her heart in the process.

Ethan has been traded for the third time in three years and he fears if his game doesn’t improve his hockey career will be over. He is pretty resentful of his father because he had pushed Ethan to break-up with Lilah when they were done with High School.

I loved the fact that this book was set in my home state of Minnesota. Lilah and Ethan’s family live in Forest Lake which wasn’t far from where I live and I drive through it all the time on the way to my Cabin. It is nice to read about places you know.

Like most of Helena Hunting’s books I have listen to, this one was told in dual points of view by two narrators. The narration was done by Stella Bloom and Lance Greenfield. Stella does a great job with inflections and reading but she is not one of my favorite narrators. Her voice sounds much older than Lilah’s 27 years. Lance Greenfield does a fine job as well, though there are more chapters told in Lilah’s point of view.

“I thought it was better for me to be the asshole who wasn’t in your life than one who would keep fucking things up.”

Helena does hockey romance like nobody else. I just love her writing and love the sports romance.

I gave this a shot, but there are two things driving a dnf. The main reason is that it's kind of pedestrian with everything running on trope-powers and nothing really making this its own thing. Lilah is bland nice girl and Ethan is standard hot guy. They say words that mostly make sense, but I don't get any sense of depth to them. This is particularly undermined by the second thing driving me nuts and that's how everything short circuits based on "chemistry". Ethan doesn't really have to atone at all, he just has to wait for her hormones to overwhelm her sense. He feels the zing when they touch, so he knows this is a sure thing that's gonna happen. Yay?

The bland reaches into the side characters, too. There was some potential with Ethan's family because they seemed an important part of Lilah's life, but that didn't really stack up, much. Like they didn't talk at all about either one to the other? That makes no sense. And Ethan's dad is a meddling jerk essentially lying to Lilah about his part in their breakup for the past eight years for . . . some reason.

Anyway, I can feel a rant building up about Ethan being the Mayor of Douchewaffleton but that's more originality (and work) than went into the novel in the first place so I aborted to this boring review, instead.

What a sweet, emotional story and heart warming story. This is a little bit different from what I have read from Helena Hunting yet so good! The Good Luck Charm is a second chance sports romance.

description

Lilah and Ethan grew up together and they were best friends. When Ethan has to leave he breaks up with Lilah. Years later, life will bring him back but things will be not the same. Both have to deal with their past and Lilah isn't ready for him. They needed to work through their past feelings.

The romance between them was heavy and intense.I could relate to Lilah and I loved that she grown up through the story.Ethan wasn't my favorite from the beginning but while I was reading the story I find myself falling in love with him slowly.

I would love to see more books like this from Helena Hunting, she is a talented author and her writing was flawless. The Good Luck Charm has some fun, swoon, steamy and lovely moments to keep your interest till the end!

This was my very first dip into the Helena Hunting pool and, oh, how sweet it was! Good Luck Charm was a delightful gem of a second chance romance, a sweet and swoony love story that I just adored. Now I'm just sitting here wondering why I haven't read her books sooner!

I'm typically a girl that's all about angsty reads that tug at my heartstrings and pummel my emotions. But sometimes a girl just needs to lighten things up with a refreshing, lighter, more heartfelt storyline. Good Luck Charm was exactly what I needed. Ethan and Lilah were so delicious together, so magnetic, just so darn right. Their story is a wholly relatable one, their chemistry is off the charts, the steam factor between them is SMOKING, and their happy ever after delivered everything my little romantic heart was craving.

Don't get me wrong, this sugary sweet second chance romance is not without conflict. It's actually nicely peppered with a small dose of drama and difficulty. But the good outweighs the bad in this story and it was a refreshing change of pace from all the angsty love stories I've read lately. Ethan and Lilah's second chance romance concentrates more on the giddy feels of their reunion, on forgiveness, on the steamy sensuality that oozes between them rather than on all the heartache that once was. The funny moments, the sharp banter, the decadent longing all come together in this book, packing a deliciously romantic punch and I was so into it.

Good Luck Charm is a heartfelt story, a feel good account of characters who finally get it right. I thought it was so sweet and so unputdownable and so satisfying. There were moments of jealousy or a perfectly placed memory that certainly satisfied my craving for angst, but it was all done so perfectly, never bogging down the story with unnecessary drama or heavy emotion. This story is swoony and sexy and super sweet and I really liked it a lot. I so enjoyed my first Helena Hunting romance and I can't wait for more.

I'm not a big fan of second chance romance because, most of the time,The female mc doesn't hold grudge as long as I would've liked. And I'm usually not convinced the male lead regretted leaving like he should. That's what happened here, she was too convenient for him and his 'let's be friends and when you are ready I will ask for your forgiveness' was a nonsense. I couldn't read further.

'I love me a 'good' plot twist.' I mean, this book is already as great as can be, with great characters, a beautiful storyline, page-turning conflict, knife-cutting tension, and packed with steamy romance between the main characters. So imagine my delight about the plot twist; it was the cherry on top.
NHL star Ethan dumps his girlfriend Lilah over the phone after getting drafted. Until this moment, Ethan was Lilah's center of the universe. This experience shattered her in more ways than one as her father left them when she was six, bringing back feelings of rejection.
When Ethan resurfaced in her life just after her eight-year-old marriage dissolved, it looked like a sign from the universe, but she was older, wiser, and weary of getting sucked back into the potential trap that was Ethan.
I had a fantastic time with this book. I am so glad it was my first this year. 5 stars.

The Good Luck Charm is deliciously good. With the background of sport romance, Miss Hunting takes her readers to another level. The story is focusing on balancing between self love and partner love. Ethan and Lilah had this toxic love where Ethan had been using Lilah as his good luck charm. And Lilah focusing herself devoting to Ethan.

They had a second chance to do it right. Their journey is not easy one. But I had fun listening to the audiobook. About 8 hours long. The chemistry between Ethan and Lilah is burning strong and sexy. Miss Hunting proved herself to be a talented writer with a twist and more complex element on her story.

Overall this is a very good book.

you know helena's books are quirky af. sometimes it's cute but most of the time it gets super annoying.

Sorry, I'm not sorry. For a second chance romance this moved forward a little to fast that I did not get invested in the relationship.

I personally think that the hero did not have to grovel at all. The heroine was just like, “I'm horny, you're horny. Let's get back together.” and the hero was like: “I don't have to do anything? Sweet, I'll take it!”

It was refreshing to read a second chance that still has a third act break-up. But I realized that I'd much rather have more groveling than another break up scene.

It also made me kinda uncomfy how clingy the hero was. I was not the heroine but I felt suffocated ngl— but maybe that's just me 🤷

This is a romance not a romcom. I wanted to give it one star because I was really bored throughout the book except in the first few chapters but the writing is good, it's just the story, characters, side characters were all so monotonous.

The spice came a lot early in the book without much emotional connection between the couple.

The Good Luck Charm is custom made for second chance romance lovers. Helena Hunting gives us some tension mixed with humor, and adds hockey to satisfy sports romance addicts like me. It’s a great combo.

Ethan and Lilah fell in love in high school. Ethan had his sights set on the NHL even back then, and they had their lives planned out together. Unfortunately, Ethan changed the rulebook after graduation and abruptly broke things off with Lilah. Eight years later, circumstances give them a shot at a do-over, but Lilah isn’t eager to hand over her heart to Ethan again.

I respected Lilah for picking herself up after having her heart trampled on and pursuing her own dreams. Her life hasn’t been the easiest, but she seems to have endless compassion. Her connection with Ethan’s parents is heartwarming. I really related to Lilah’s struggle to balance work and her own needs with the demands of those she loves.

What female doesn’t love to feel wanted by their man? Ethan makes it clear that he both wants and needs Lilah in his life. However, he’s too needy for my taste. A little vulnerability is sexy; desperation is not. He loves so intensely to the point of suffocation. I can’t deny the fact that Ethan is a total romantic, though, and his incredibly nurturing nature ups the swoon factor tremendously. I loved the wooing, even though I wouldn’t have minded more groveling on Ethan’s part.

Ethan and Lilah have wonderful chemistry, and I savored their romance reboot. At the same time, Ethan’s strained relationship with his father creates some nice tension.

Some elements of the plot are glossed over and rushed, which is a shame because I think they could have made the story more impactful. All together, though, this is an enjoyable second chance romance with a lot of warmth.

I struggled with The Good Luck Charm. Mainly because there wasn’t any plot and the characters weren’t appealing to me. It actually started out promising with the 5 first chapters and given the history Ethan and Lilah shared I expected they’d needed more work before they got back together. I would’ve liked that. They’ve been separated for eight years and reconciled rather quickly. After that I felt the story just repeated itself. Lilah pushed herself and her needs aside for Ethan and he didn’t even notice it. They had great chemistry and some sizzling hot scenes but it’s not enough when there wasn’t any plot. I quite simply lost interest. In them and the overall story which was such a shame since it started out so promising.
Don’t let this deter you from reading Lilah and Ethan’s story. It just missed the mark for me.

3.25 stars

Im a huge fan of Helena Hunting and was excited to read Good Luck Charm.

I was hooked on this story as soon as I dived in. I was choked up with emotions one minute and then laughing my ass of the next and this was all within the first 20%

Before reading this book, I was in a hugeeee reading slump but I knew if any book could get me out of it, it would be this one.

Now, youre probably sitting there wondering why I rated this book a 3.25 when I seemed to have loved it right from the start. I get the confusion cause I felt it myself. I had mixed feelings after reading it cause although I enjoyed this book, I had a few issues with it.

This is a second chance romance so I was anticipating some sort of drama/obstacles in the way before they finally got together but thats not how it played out. Even though DJ/Lilah was so hurt and upset when she ran into Ethan, she easily took him back as if the past 8 years didnt happen. I was seriously waiting for the shoe to drop cause it was just too damn easy.
Towards the end of the book they finally had problems which is what I was looking for but........ you know the saying "Careful what you wish for"? Yeah. It was the worst! The drama between the two had me really annoyed!!! Lilah lost herself in her relationship while Ethan was so damn selfish.

Towards the end, the author allows you to understand why Lilah acted the way she did but this chick *points at self* was just over it.

I will say that I really enjoyed the ending of this book. This was definitely a fluffy read and Im a fan of fluff but this book sadly wasnt a 5 star read for me. I felt like this book was a lil different from her other books but that might just be me🙈 Im also in the minority with my feelings.

Wow, that was one steamy romance! The two lead characters definitely had chemistry both in and out of the bedroom. It's a sweet second chance romance but yeah, there are some scenes that are graphic in detail. Just figured I'd mention that as I know some readers prefer more PG13 style stories.

Lilah and Ethan were high school sweethearts until he dumped her to focus on his hockey career. Eight years later, he's back in town wanting to start things up again with Lilah. Not so fast, mister! You're going to have to figure out a way to win back her heart.

So the title of the book is somewhat interesting to me because the whole good luck charm aspect doesn't really happen until quite a ways into the story. Every romance has a conflict or two on the road to happily ever after and that's one of the problems facing this couple. I actually preferred the other storyline of Lilah learning how to put herself first. The story alternates between Lilah and Ethan and they are both gosh, darn likeable characters.

If you can handle a romance that will most likely make you blush, I recommend reading this one.

Thank you to Forever for providing me with an advance copy! All thoughts expressed are my honest opinion.

This book starts off with the heroine Lilah having a terrible, horrible no good, very bad day. That's putting it mildly. Yep, I've had days like that. This is dual 1st person POV. The entire first chapter is shitting on poor Lilah.
She's a very nice person. A caring, loving and very capable nurse.
Lilah's patient is someone she knows very well.
Lilah's trying to turn things around just at the time she and Ethan see each other for the first time in several years.

Ethan and Lilah were each other's first love. He broke her heart and left town (and Lilah) to make it big in professional hockey. It's years later. Lilah still has feelings for Ethan. It's mutual. Lilah is more than a lot cautious. She doesn't want to have feelings for him, but she does.

She is worried Ethan will get her to care and then leave her again.
Lilah had been married and is now recently divorced.
Ethan has come back to his home town -near Minneapolis. He's been traded & trying to get his career back on track. In his early years, Ethan was quite the hockey star. He still has the ability, but he's been traded a few times and is now back on his home town team.

He grovels -a lot for what he put Lilah through. They were both young but Ethan really was a schmuck about how he broke it off with Lilah.
Lilah has made a life for herself. She has career goals and is on track to get her Master's in Nursing.

Ethan seemed to be in constant apology mode-even after they started seeing each other again, Ethan didn't seem to have his stuff together. He seemed to be dependent on Lilah to approve of his success. Lilah got into an almost harpy pattern. She rightly pulled back to get each of them back to being their own complete person.

There was a side development that came out in the last 25% of the book. A new development that is related to how Lilah opens up and trusts in relationships Lilah and Ethan have their ah ha moments.
I wanted Ethan to be a lot more assertive in relationships (with Lilah and also with Ethan's dad) and also ambitious in his career.

There's a sweet ending. I wanted an epilogue further into the future. I smell a sequel.
I borrowed this from Overdrive.

2.5 Estrellas!

I thought this was going to be a grovelfest when I read the blurb. So I hunkered down for some good down home GROVELLING HERO action!

But it wasn't grovel-worthy. Not that the heroine was a doormat, but let's just say she was an easy sell. And by the halfway mark, when they were back at it, I realized that there was a whollotta book left and I didn't understand what else there would be left to say. Oh right!! She suspects the heroe's over attentiveness is him needing her as his pregame superstition routine. Thus...Good Luck Charm!

So they slowed shit down... and the story slowed down. And I slowed down... And trudged, like the trooper that I am, to it's YAWN ending.

Nothing wrong with this story, but in my opinion, right when things should be going full speed, I felt like it sputtered to it's ending.

2.5

I love SCR’s but I’m noticing they are ALL ALIKE! Seriously it’s a case of same script different cast. I read to about 30% but then I realized I’m not enjoying the story and I’m pretty much wasting my precious time. Never thought I’d say this but I’m done with fluffy, cute reads like this. I need something more.

I do think this would be enjoyable for some but for me it’s a no.

even though I am not a fan of second chance romance, I still wanted to give it a chance, this book has been sitting on my tbr for way too long, the leading couple just doesn't evoke any feeling from me whatsoever... so DNF!!

Can we talk about how much I’m loving backlist reading? I’m pretty sure #fallintomybacklist saved my ass because I have been SO burnt out lately and then when I started backlist reading this month, everything fell into place for me. It reignited my love of reading, the freedom to read whatever I want has been amazing and I feel like so much pressure has disappeared. Who else has been reading along with @reallyintothis and I? Have you found any new to you authors or series? ⁣

@helenahunting isn’t a new author for me, I adored Meet Cute and immediately added her other books to my #TBR and I kept hearing amazing things about The Good Luck Charm from so many people. Y’all were right, I loved this one! Ethan and Lilah were adorable and their chemistry was 🔥 this one was steamy, funny and just an overall entertaining read. I started Pucked right after this one and I can definitely say I’m a firm fan of HH!

What a lovely book.
I'm giving this book five stars!

Loved the little twist at the end.. I wasn't expecting that.

And a lovely epilogue to end the book :)

I would be really interested in reading more books to with Lilah's sisters!
