The Wish Collector Kindle Edition
New Orleans, a city of mystery and magic, of secrets and dreams, and a history drenched in both love and the deepest of heartache.
When ballet dancer Clara Campbell arrives in New Orleans, lonely and homesick, she is immediately captivated by the story of Windisle Plantation and the tragic tale that is said to have transpired beyond its gate. Legend has it that it is abandoned by all living souls, but to Clara’s great surprise, it is not a ghost she hears through the stone wall surrounding the property, but a flesh and blood man. A scarred stranger with a pain deeper and darker than the churning waters of the Mississippi river that flows beside his self-imposed prison.
The ruined man behind the wall hides himself from the world. The last thing he expects is to find a friend in the selfless girl who speaks to him through the cracks in the rock. The girl who keeps returning week after week. The girl who makes him wish for things he has long since given up on. The girl who strikes both fear and hope within his wounded heart. But there can be no future for them, no life beyond Windisle, for no one knows better than him that monsters only live in the dark.
The Wish Collector is the story of shame and triumph, of loneliness and love, and the miracle of two hearts connecting despite the strongest of barriers between them.

Mia has a way of creating flawed and vulnerable characters that reflect the truth in life. They are so loveable and believable and the story she weaves around them is always one you want to follow and become immersed in. Highly recommended.

A beauty and beast type story set in magical New Orleans.
Clara, who has recently moved to the area and is lonely, hears a tale about a magical weeping wall that grants wishes. While observing it for herself and making a wish, she discovers someone is behind the wall, and they become friends. However he never leaves, and won’t let anyone in as he has a dark history. Clara will do anything to help him as she needs a friend.

There is so much to be said about this story - I read it days and days ago and yet putting into words the raw emotion I feel, doesn’t do it justice. While it is whimsical and romantic - it truly is about forgiving yourself and finding your self-worth. It’s about hope and love and redemption.
Mia Sheridan is a masterful writer but in ‘The Wish Collector’ she weaves a hauntingly beautiful tapestry of love and loss and of pain and atonement.
Jonah has made mistakes and he pays for them every day of his life. He can’t find it within himself to find forgiveness and he lives a life of complete solitude, hiding from the world, as he feels that’s how he should pay his dues. When Clara makes an unselfish wish at the wishing wall on his property, everything changes. Jonah is drawn to her, her kindness, her selflessness.

but as they work together to unlock a mystery from the past, they begin to discover that the greatest battles sometimes lie within...
I loved the slow build of Jonah and Clara’s friendship and how it evolves. It’s so sweet and endearing and I couldn’t get enough of their interactions. Jonah is so broken, it was beautiful to watch the light slowly creep back into him.
I loved the mysteries of the stories and the uncovering of truths and corruption, the reclaiming of life, the finding of purpose, and most of all, the hope and love this story is filled with. As always, Mia Sheridan’s storytelling is exquisite, transcendent and soulful, as she writes with such passion, ‘The Wish Collector’ is overflowing with it.
Both beautiful and tragic, this is the kind of story that stays with you long after the final page.

So much love for this beautifully written story about true love. It almost felt like a modern take on Beauty and the Beast or Phantom of the Opera. There was a classic feel to it, a story that can be told and re-told. I would love for a novella to be written about John and Amgelina, but that's because I'm a greedy reader!
As always, Mia Sheridan did not disappoint!

Wow, what a surprise this one was. For me, it was magical. Mia Sheridan sure can spin a story, and I fell for both Jonah and Clara. This story goes back to the early 1800’s every now and again and has a spell involved. A tortured hero and a beautiful ballerina heroine slowly find love and overcome some painful inside and outside wounds. Love heals all. This was a real heartfelt read.

The Wish Collector was a really sweet read - Clara was such a sweetheart. I enjoyed how the 2 stories intertwined and the connection there was between the past and the present.
However, I did find the story a little slow going at times. It didn't captivate me like some of this authors other reads - but overall I did enjoy Jonah and Clara's story.

A very angsty beauty and the beast. I've read a couple of Mia Sheridan's books Grayson's vow, and the quite wonderful Archer's voice, this was for me not quite there. The story didn't really flow and I was pushing myself in places to continue to the end.

Reading the description, I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect and regretfully left it on TBR for a long time. I’m so happy I finally picked it up! Beautiful story interlaced with multiple poignant themes. The magic was both inspiring and spiritual without being too fantastical. Mia Sheridan really knows how to write wonderful characters. ❤️ Highly recommend reading this book!

I had read this book a couple of years ago and at the time I hadn’t wrote a review. I guess I was in awe with the beauty of it and didn’t think any of my praises would be enough.
I’ll keep this simple by telling you that this was one of the most beautiful love stories I’ve ever read (and believe me, I’ve read many), and I love the main characters Clara and Jonah with all my heart.
I don’t like to reread books, but as I reread this one, I felt all the emotion it brought the first time. I can’t say if I liked it equally or even more. Thank you, Mia, for writing it.

What a rare gem of a story! With an almost dreamlike, fairy-tale quality to her every word, Mia Sheridan weaves a hauntingly beautiful tapestry of darkness and light, love and loss, pain and atonement, with a tale that transports the reader to a place where true love never dies, and where a spark of hope can find its way through even the smallest of cracks in an old, stone wall. Set against the vivid background of the mystical city of New Orleans, this is the story of two lonely hearts who find safe harbour in each other’s arms, but as they work together to unlock a mystery from the past, they begin to discover that the greatest battles sometimes lie within us, and that is where they must be fought. Shortly after moving to New Orleans to pursue a career in ballet, Clara Campbell finds herself awash in loneliness and uncertainty, the company of an elderly neighbour becoming her only respite from the melancholy that threatens to overwhelm her daily. And it is during one of her visits to her elderly friend that Clara learns of a century-and-a-half-old legend held within the beautiful, broken structures of Windisle Plantation. From the moment Clara hears the story of a beautiful young slave who fell for a handsome southern soldier, and whose spirits are said to be still trapped in the very place where their love affair ended so tragically, she begins to feel a strange pull to Windisle, beckoning her to explore the secrets held within its shadows. But instead of finding ghosts there, Clara meets a mysterious stranger hiding behind its walls.

Jonah Chamberlain hasn’t stepped outside his old, crumbling family estate in eight long, grief-filled years. Holding himself responsible for the tragic events that led to his own scarred appearance, Jonah spends his days drowning in sorrow and loneliness, but from the moment he hears a young woman’s selfless wish whispered through the cracks in an old, stone wall, he becomes bewitched by her. They continue to meet week after week, spending time just talking, and sharing their innermost thoughts and fears with one another, even though that stone wall continues to stand between them.

As they slowly begin to piece the past together, getting closer and closer to setting the star-crossed lovers free from the curse trapping them at Windisle, Clara and Jonah also begin to fall in love. But it soon becomes clear to Clara that her velvet-voiced ‘wish collector’ might be living in a cage of his own making—never too far, but always far enough to be out of reach to her, their reality in so many ways echoing the very curse they are trying to break.
