So I'll admit I went into this book with a little bit of trepidation. When I first started reading romance novels one of my favorite tropes was "second chance" stories. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, authors turned this trope into "the hero moves on to screw 5000 other women, while the poor broken-hearted heroine stays stuck in the past, never able to sleep with another man until the hero shows back up again".

description

This makes Eve very stabby (lol). So why am I mentioning all this? Because I want to give props to authors that step away from that trend, and this author did exactly that with this book. BOTH the main characters remained celibate during the three years they were separated. I'll wait while you pick yourself off the floor...(lol). Not a date. Not a kiss. Nothing...both stayed 100% true to their feelings for each other.

description

So deets...quite frankly, this is going to be a romance "safety" readers wet dream. Grady is utter perfection. He f-cked up big time, but he owned it, and he worked hard to make it up to Collins. His inner thoughts made my heart all squishy (lol). Collins was equally as likable. She was hurt (rightfully so) and made Grady work for it, but not for so long that it became annoying. That said, the whole "keeping it a secret" thing made me want to throat punch her a time or two (lol).

There was also a good cast of secondary characters. I assume Caleb and Emily are from a previous book? And I liked Collin's roommate Tabby. I hope she gets a book as well. I was also mildly curious about Caleb and Grady's friends, but since they are both huge manwhores, I was a little "meh" about whether I cared enough to read books with them as heroes. I am pretty over the whole OTT manwhore hero at this point.

description

I would say this was more of a slow burn book with no sex scenes until 75%, and there really wasn't any OW or OM drama and very little angst. Although, of course, all the nurses wanted him and threw themselves at him, because of course, they did. (rolling my eyes). Last, it was all wrapped up in a super sweet epilogue.

So yea, not much left to say. It dragged a little for me towards the end, but other than that it was a damn good romance book. And again, huge props to the author for not going the cliché route of having him be all in lurv with the heroine but continue to stick it in everything and anything. It made for a refreshing change of pace.

Buddy Read with Shiv 💕 Also, my first BR on Goodreads, yaaayy!! 🎉 🎆 😂

Boy, am I glad that this particular book was a BR, because the first half of this was barely a 3 star for me, and I probably would have skimmed or DNF'd it had I been reading alone 😂
But it got better and the second half was a 4 star read!

It's a childhood friends to lovers (brother's best friend) kinda story in which a one night stand between Grady and Collins fucks it all up, and they end up estranged. Almost three years later, Grady is back in town for his best friend's wedding, and that's where the story picks up.

“I know you, Collins. I know what if feels like to be on the receiving end of your kisses and your hugs. I know that you are home to me. Not this town, not my parents’ place. You. Three years ago on a cold winter night, you captured my heart. I want you to keep it, Collins. I never want it back.”

Remedy is a really sweet story, with a little angst thrown in!

P.S. There's a few editing errors in this, but this one I can't forget: 'I’m a gluten for punishment' wtf 😂😂

Remedy was my first book by Kaylee Ryan and I’ll definitely be reading more from this author. This book was a super sweet brother’s best friend book. I enjoyed a lot about it, especially the hero. I do wish the heroine wouldn’t have been quite as stubborn and these two could have been out and together for more of the book, but still a good read!

This book had me at second chance. I’m a sucker for them. This was also my first book by Ms. Ryan. Okay, now to the good part.....

Remedy is all about Grady and Collins (I just loved how unique her name is!!!). When you grow up as neighbors then friends, you just progress to the next level of falling in love....well for Collins that’s what it was....Grady just wasn’t sure....

I liked how the author gave us a hint at the beginning of the story of what went down and then was able to give us more of Grady and Collins’ history with little snippets from the past. I enjoyed their rediscovery of their relationship and to see how they had grown.

Very enjoyable second chance romance. If there's one thing I love more than a second chance romance it's good grovel. And our hero, Grady does it so well! He makes a mistake with Collins, our heroine, when they are both a few years younger. Did that mistake cost him the love of his life? When Grady comes back to their home town he is desperate to fix things ( commence the grovelling). Collins wants none of it. Or him. She has dug in her heels and I really can't blame her. But this time around, Grady is not giving up. His love is unshakeable the entirety of the book and I really liked that. He works tirelessly to regain her trust which is quite the uphill battle. The second plot point of the book is the fact that Grady is Collins' brother's best friend. Collins fears Caleb's reaction when he finds out that she is in love with Grady. Will Grady lose his best friend? Caleb has forever warned his friends that his little sister is off limits. Grady is beyond caring what Caleb thinks. He loves Collins. Doesn't care who sees or knows. So what happens when Caleb finds out? Well.......you'll just have to read and see! This was a quick read for me. I loved Grady's devotion and determination to win his girl. Collins was cautious, but never really fell out of love with Grady so her caving in to Grady's persistence was inevitable. Epilogue was excellent and a heart-warming conclusion to their tale.

Experience male protagonist vs virgin female protagonist - check
Brother’s best friend (so she mostly knows about how he hooked up when she pined for him) - check
He ran like a chicken after taking her virginity- chickens are gonna sue me
He didn’t answer to her text and calls and ignored her for 3 years - check
I’m not even sure she held up for 3 weeks.
Ummm... forget about grovelling, even the apologies were shit!
When would men and authors understand “baby I fucked up, I’m sorry, it’s not forgivable but I’ll beat you down until you forgive me anyway because that’s what I want. Also I ran like chickenshit because back then THAT was what *I* wanted. It doesn’t matter you don’t want this, I’ll make you want this. Also babe, can you stop being a bitch and forget about the past and move on already” is by NO means an apology. Or grovel. Or grovelling apologies. This only further demonstrates your internal misogyny, sexism and support for toxic masculinity. “Shut the fuck up and get the fuck out of my life because I’m not interested anymore. I was three years ago, not now” should be very much indicative that she doesn’t want you.

I have not written any full reviews on the millions of romance novels I have read these last two months but this one made me angry enough that I am starting now. I found this abysmal. If that had been the only thing I thought about it, I wouldn't have minded as much, but I also found it sexist and that just annoys me. I am not reading romance to be hit on the head with how stupid women are - the opposite in fact. I like romance because it can be empowering and because it focusses on human relationships (romantic and otherwise) in a way that works really well for me. Well-written romance is wonderful, badly written romance on the other hand is pretty much the worst thing to read.

I should have given up on the book on page 1 (so that is on me) when the book starts with these lovely sentences: "It's been three long years since I've been home. Three years of blaming it on my job at the hospital, the eleven-hour drive, and a host of other "reasons" I couldn't come home. Three years of acting as if the dick swinging between my legs is actually a vagina, when it really there is only one reason." Kill me now, please. The book doesn't get any less sexist from here on.

Thing is, Grady hooked up ("gave into temptation") with his best friend's little sister who had a crush on him forever who "gave herself to him" (I hate that phrase and the obsession with virginity some books have) - and then he ran away for stupid reasons, leaving a woman who obviously treats sex as something super important to wake up on her own and never replying to her texts. This is very much an asshole move but it's also a reason for him having to grovel that just doesn't do it for me. Now, I know that my more easy attitude towards sex is not a problem with the book per se, but still the endless groveling got increasingly repetitive and for me at least overly dramatic. Once they mostly resolve their problem and decide to date again, they move at lightning speed even though she has still moments of doubt. I hated that.

Other things that annoyed me because apparently this book was custom-made for me to hate it:

- every woman who meets Grady flirts with him because every woman only sees his status as a doctor,
- Collins cleaning Grady's flat and going shopping for him although they have only been dating for a week or so because obviously that is her job and she (a nurse) doesn't work as hard as he does (a doctor),
- the phrase "my cock saluted her" (in general the weird mix of superficial sanctimoneousness and crude language really didn't work for me),
- both of them staying celibate for three years between their one-night-stand and them seeing each other again (I know this one is a me-thing and not a problem with the book),
- the endless parades of "I love you" in every single conversations, often more than once, after dating for a week,
- weird sentences like this one: "She makes a gun with her hand and pretends to blow smoke off the barrell, which is her index finger, causing us both to laugh.",
- and finally: Collins never ever brushes her teeth. What's up with that?

Remedy was a story I just fell in LOVE with. Sure you get girl has a big crush on her brother bestfriend, but one night together while in college changes everything, but Grady freaked out and left Collins after and it took 3 long years for him to come back to town and make things right. Collins not so sure if she can put her heart on the line again. What Grady has to do is Prove he is back and ready to fight and also show Collins he is in it to win it, to win her back and show her that what she always wanted is right in front of her all she has to do is grab it. Collins is the only Remedy Grady needs to make his world better. Great friends to love story.

I love, love, love this second chance romance.

What's more taboo that falling in love with your best friend's little sister. And Grady has been paying for it the past 3 years. Since the one night with Collins, Grady has thought of nothing else but her and how he can be with her without losing his best friend.

Now Grady is ready. He has nothing standing in the way. That is except the more than mildly pissed Collins.

Grady is on a mission to show Collins that she is all he has thought about since he walked out the door 3 years ago. Collins is afraid of getting her heart broken once again.

I loved Grady and Collins together. They were cute yet sexy with Grady more than once proving his love and devotion to Collins. Sometimes you just need a book that you smile the entire way through and Remedy was that book for me!

Talk about all the feels!!!! Such a beautiful older bff with little sister love story, ❤️. Grady and Collins had history but no one ever knew or suspected it; it was their secret. But Grady broke her heart and they hadn’t seen each other in 3 years.

Grady returns home and still loves Collins and as much as she tries to fight she still loves him. But it wasn’t a walk in the park for Grady. Collins made it very difficult to forgive him and to move on. Grady started wearing her down and it was such a beauty. You get to live their struggles and emotional love story. The beauty of this story is that there is no drama or a third person trying to break them up.

My favorite was the reaction of Collins brother when he found out; it was priceless. And their parents?! Lol lovely. I loved the epilogue and can’t wait to read more on them.

Basically the hero is heroine’s brother’s friend and has been living next door to them, heroine’s got a crush on him forever.
Then one day he’s back from college and realizes she’s grown up. They have a ons and the morning after he disappears and goes back to college without even answering her texts. The heroine poor dear tries to at least call him and get in touch with him but no way.
Three years later he’s back as if nothing happened and wants the heroine back.
She’s still hurt and hasn’t been with anyone after him.
He tells her he regretted his decision one hour after he did but he had to because if he answered her he would have never gone to college and finished his studies.
Yeah right.
After some lame attempt to resist him the heroine gives up when he tells her there’s been nobody and he’s been waiting to finish his studies to come back to her, the heroine gives up and accepts to date him.
From this point the story is boring.
What I didn’t like.
-his behavior after his ons with the heroine. Callous and selfish. And the reason? He would have given up his studies? Nope. After all they were friends before being lovers.
- the heroine. Ok she was hurt because he left her without a word but after three years she still hadn’t moved on. I wish she had some other guy, but no, no sex and still hurting.
She’s got no backbone, she accepts him immediately after his explanation.
- the second part about how good is the hero to the heroine is basically uneventful. Nothing happened.
- yes, the hero has been celibate and this is why I didn’t give one star. At least he shows he cared, not only with words.
- but he behaved very badly. He didn’t care he hurt her. He could at least answer her texts and explain why he did what he did. And she was there for him, after three years she still hadn’t moved on.
- so this book was not bad but wasn’t a hit too, too little happens and the hero is the usual selfish coward that you would never want to spend your life with.

This book GAH this book I’m in love with this story! Grady and Collins LOVE them! This book grabs you right from the start. You do not want to set this book down. I found myself waking up early to see what was going to happen between these too. I love a strong woman and Collins is just that. She’s smart and sexy. Grady is the same strong willed, smart, sexy, and swoon worthy.

The only problem I had with this book was it ended. I need and want more of Collins and Grady! They are truly a great couple!!!

I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH DOC GRADY CARMICHAEL!!! Swoonnnnnnn.....

I love a good older brothers best friend romance. The little sister who has been in love with the guy forever. This was a little different than your typical brothers best friend story, and it is soooo darn good. By the way, I love this cover, it literally is a scene in the book!!! I LOVE IT!

Grady and Collins had The Moment 3 years ago, but Grady runs away, scared of how real everything felt, but he knew he couldn't control being apart from the one girl he knew would change his whole world, his best friends sister, the girl he had always known there was something more that just that one title. So, he completely devastates her, and takes himself out of the equation, crushing her and leaving her bitter and hurt. But his plans after medical school is to win her back. He knows he's in for a long rough ride, but this story is sooooo worth it all.

A second chance at the perfect perfect love between two who share so much deep feelings for each other. Dual POVs, which I absolutely love, and really good supporting characters. I completely LOVED this story. This story is a must read!!!

Paging Dr. Carmichael..... ohh how I need him in my life!!!! Another hit from Kaylee Ryan.
Grady totally screwed up 3 years ago when he left Collins behind after one night together. Now what med school is complete, he is back to win her love again and get on with their happily ever after. Yeah, that’s not going to be easy!!!
Collins was heartbroken when she woke up alone after they had their night together. Without hearing from him for 3 years and now he is back in town wanting a second chance, she’s not willing for her heart to get broken again.
Grady does not give up. He will grovel and continue to grovel until he can convince her that he made the worst mistake of his life 3 years ago and will do anything to have her forever. She is his Remedy!!!

-safe read
-h was virgin
-doesn’t talk much about H history
-both celibate during 3 year separation
-no om/ow drama. Just nurses trying to flirt with him but he shuts them down quickly.
-epilogue 3 years out. I wanted more because I wasn’t ready for their story to end.

Weak characters, boring book

Wow. The h sure didn't make the douchewaffle - I mean, the H - work too hard before she showed what a disappointment she is to the female gender. Collins was worthless IMO and incidentally, I detest that name for a woman. #sorrynotsorry

And the 'hero', Grady - whose name must mean 'whiny, selfish twat' - comes out smelling like a rose. He bagged Collins' virginity in a ONS, ghosted her for years while he did what he wanted, then showed back up like he had a right to lay claim to her.
She fought him for maybe 5 minutes, then rolled over with her legs in the air.
Then everyone was happy and nothing happened but a load of syrupy, feel-good drivel. Seriously boring.
Then he knocked her up and HEA, blah, blah, blah. The end.

I know, original, right?

Try trite, dull and recycled to f*ck.

Remedy was my first book by author Kaylee Ryan and while I liked it a lot, I didn’t love it quite so much as others have. To be honest, although the story itself was above reproach, I did find parts of it repetitive. I was well past the 50% mark before I felt like we were getting somewhere with the relationship between these two.
This a story of second chance and forgiveness, lost loves and the desire to make things right.
Grady and Collins grew up next door to each other. Grady is Collin’s older brother’s best friend and she crushed on him all her teen years. Grady being four years older knew how she felt, but never reciprocate those feelings until after Collins first year away at college.
So, when he finally sees her as a woman rather than a cute friend, he’s overwhelmed and even more so when they hookup. But then he makes THE mistake.
Three years pass before he comes home determined to fix everything he did wrong. He’s never stopped thinking about Collins or the life he wants to share with her.
Collins was devastated when Grady just up and left and now that he’s back home, he thinks he can just pick up where they left off???
Grady’s got a fight on his hands to prove his worth to Collins and lets not forget about Caleb, Collins’s older brother. Will he go HULK on his best friend for breaking the ‘bro code’?
Grab your copy and find out.

Grady likes to make sure things are done proper, “baby, technically this is our first date, I’m not effing it up. You text me when you’re ready, and I’ll be here.” Grady just likes to be with his woman, “because I want you here, and with my **** hours, I never know when I’m going to be home for certain, so if you need to be in here to get anything you left or to leave more”— he winks—“I want you to be able to get inside.” I liked this book, I loved Grady.

I read this because it was KU, and while it had a lot of things I do not like, I wanted to give the author some credit for execution.

I HATE/LOATHE virgin heroines, and I equally HATE/LOATHE this constant trope of an h pining away for the H that is older than her, and so she is subjected to him with other women. It's tired, it needs to stop or be done with a gender swap. That being said.....I wanted to begrudgingly give this author some credit for her execution of it. Typically, in these books you hear ALL about the other women, you get sex scenes with OW, you get all the talk about the fun the hero has with OW, you hear about how he wanted the girl the whole time but then goes and lives it up in the separation, and that did not happen in this book. All the things I hate were so subtly done you didn't really get immersed in the h's POV in terms of other women he had been with, he even states he doesn't really remember any women he was with before her. He was celibate in separation, and I appreciated that. I feel those writing choices are how these stories should be done, we don't want to be subjected to the h's pain in seeing him with other women or knowing about it, it's not important to the story. Nor is a named OW bitchy type character needed to show us he treats the heroine different. We just need the H's POV on how he feels and his actions to back that up, and I appreciated this author did that. The virgin stuff is...whatever, I didn't know she was a virgin till I had already started it, prob wouldn't have read it if I knew. I will go back into my lab to figure out how to make authors forget that trope ever existed!

Overall, the book was kind of a slog to get through, while I liked the hero and his devotion to righting his wrong, it got tiring listening to their inner monologues about how much they loved each other, it got a bit too melodramatic for me. I like romance, I like the hero to be all about the heroine the way he was, but I don't need chapters and chapters of him reiterating the same thoughts over and over, same with the heroine. There wasn't a whole lot of obstacles in the story, just telling her brother and deciding whether she would give him another chance (we already knew yes lol). I never like this need to get her brothers "permission", or why the hero is always such a wimp when it comes to this, so his reasoning for leaving her for three years was weak sauce, suck it up buddy! At least in the present he was immediately ready to tell the brother, and give up the friendship to be with her, but eh women aren't owned by their fathers and brothers, we need to let this trope go too.

I am seriously like a junky when it comes to anything Kaylee Ryan writes. She is one of my go to authors, I don't even have to read the blurb to one click. Her words astound me, she makes me feel things that most authors couldn't even dream of. Remedy was such an amazing second chance story. This book made me feel things, that most movies can't even do. This cover?? The hottest cover to ever grace one of her books. It is gorgeous, but most importantly, it fits this story to a freaking T. This cover, is 100 percent Grady Carmichael and Collins Ward. Remedy is THAT book. I have never felt words pour from a book, like I did this one. The devotion in this book, is so beautiful and heartfelt, I felt it down to my core.

Remedy. There is absolutely NO title that has ever fit a book more perfectly. The way it was used throughout this story.. PHENOMENAL!

Collins. I have to point out that this name is so unique, and probably the best heroine name I have ever stumbled across. It fits this characters personality so well. I could not imagine another name for her. Collins has a soft heart, but knows when to stick to her guns. She knows what she deserves and is not afraid to point that out. For her, it's actions that speak louder than words. She is essentially living her dream career, and is content with the way her life is at the moment.

Grady Carmichael. This man will give any guy in this universe a run for their money. I have never connected to a Hero like I did him. I felt him in ways I have never experienced before. The things he felt, I felt. It was surreal. Grady is a smart and determined man. He set his goals high, and crushed each of them. He is passionate. So damn passionate. He is not afraid to admit when he messed up, rather, right or wrong. He is a man determined to right his wrongs and make things right in life.

Grady and Collins grew up together. Collins always harbored feelings towards Grady, and thought Grady felt nothing towards her because she was his best friends little sister, until one night changed everything. The next morning, Collins wakes up in bed alone and was completely devastated. Now three years later, Grady is back and is determined to show Collins what her heart really yearns for. Can Collins let go of the past long enough to see Grady is all in? Or will the past be too much for Collins to realize Grady's in for the long hall?

* I RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!

** ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review. **

I enjoyed Remedy by Kaylee Ryan, a second chance romance with a strong hint of slow burn between Collins and Grady.

It was pretty blunt from the start. After spending one night together, Grady went away without looking back and also ignoring Collins. A few years later, he was back in town and working at the same place as her. Asking for a second chance after he broke her heart.

How to trust someone after this? Grady was going to work for it, showing how much he cared, staying by her side no matter what. And damn if it wasn’t so freaking cute and sweet. Explaining his reasons, pushing back harder when she tried to push him away.

The only little glitch to me about Collins being at times repetitive, unsure about his feelings. After all he’s done and claiming her, I found it a bit annoying. I understood that she was heartbroken but Grady never failed her in the present like he used to be in the past. He learnt from his mistakes and was sure about how they meant to be, and belonged together.

Leaving aside that part, I liked it. It was swoony, cute, and pretty hot. It was so charming and it was really great for once to read a story a bit differently, with no heavy drama. I appreciated that the author didn’t follow the usual way about the brother's best friend trope we could read sometimes.

I must be getting cynical in my old age. I like second chance romances, but I do have a caveat. I want the hero to not be a total ass. Don't ghost the girl!
Our heroine had a crush on the boy next door, and best friend to her older brother for years. She finally gives up her v-card in one night of 'passion.' But the next day he acts like he barely knows her and leaves for college. Now would it have been impossible for him to at least drop her a text? I'm not asking for a long 'Dear Jane' letter professing his feelings.
Dear Jane,
Although last night was fine, I think we should put a pin in this. I have to work on
becoming a doctor all the nurses chase after and besides your brother said you were
forbidden on pain of death. So, see you in a few years.
Instead he ghosts her and then wants to jump her bones when he sees her later in life. Now he's ready to take the next step. Granted he spent a lot of time on the last one, but now he's ready, so she needs to get in the game.
I personally don't know that any amount of groveling would get him past the friend stage with me, but, I'm not the heroine of a romance novel. Luckily for those of us who want a happily ever after in our novels, (even if it doesn't happen in real life) she forgives him and they move onto the romance.
This book is well written and easy to enjoy so I give it three stars. As ya'll know I am very forgiving with books and besides, I still love this author! So on to her next book!

Not my first read by Kaylee Ryan, I quiet enjoy her books very much!

This is a sweet and hard story. I feel Collins down to my bones, but boy can she hold a grudge. I am almost applauding her but at the same time, like girl give a little, just tiny bit. Poor Grady is trying really really hard.

This is not a typical the younger sister falling in love with her older brother's best friend. They have known one another for all their life. When Collins finally let's go and Grady gives in, their night it magical if anything.
When Grady decides the fate for both, there was no going back.
Now back again near her, he even more feels that regret of his choice many years ago.

My heart has all the feels for Grady, I understand what he did HE DID, but boy is he paying for it worse than being told and reminded. He is beating himself over it, but I determined to be the best Doctor there is...and maybe win his girl back?

Little warning, Grady will melt your heart he is SWOON goals! I might have started to hate Collins just a tad bit, because she is very head strong...but towards the end..i was just enjoying the ride.

Favorite Quote:
"I am irrevocably in love with her." -Grady

Five stars well deserved for this book, highly recommended!

Grady Carmichael is seriously swoon worthy! Collins is the little sister of his best friend, they also grew up next door neighbors and their parents are best friends. She should be the last girl he falls for, but three years ago their relationship changed forever.

During their three year separation Grady worked hard in medical school and had his heart set on a residency that would bring him back home and back to the one girl who had his heart. Collins was heartbroken over what Grady did to her so when he returns back home she wants absolutely nothing to do with him, well at least in her head. Her heart feels differently.

For anyone who loves a second chance, best friends little sister romance this would be one I highly recommend. Grady is serious book boyfriend material, he works hard trying to prove he is in it for the long run. I was instantly crushing over him, despite the jerk move he made. It took me a little longer to warm up to Collins, but once I did I loved her two. Together, their chemistry was perfect. This story was sweet, sexy, at times I found myself laughing and other times I found myself crying.

This is another fantastic story from Kaylee and definitely one that I will read again and again. A must read for 2019!

It’s two thirty in the morning and I can barely hold my eyes open but I started reading around ten or so and I just couldn’t stop. I was utterly consumed by this story. This might just be my favorite story from Ryan.

Ryan gives us a story of regret and heartache, a story of second chances and love. Grady and Collins’ journey was beyond captivating. Their pain made my chest hurt, Grady and his conviction made me swoon, and their love gave me butterflies.

Remedy gave me the feels, it was emotional and exciting and I couldn’t get enough. These characters were so endearing. It was easy to fall in love with them, to root for them, to feel protective of them, and to connect with them. I didn’t want the story to end.

Doctor ✔️
Nurse ✔️
Second chance romance ✔️
Best friends little sister ✔️

See that list right there? That list is part of a list of my absolute favorites when reading! And Ms. Ryan got the nail on the head with this story! I instantly fell for Grady and Collins. I dove right in and couldn’t put them down. Their journey was a journey but omg it was such a good one!! Add in Caleb and Emily, and Tabby too and you have the whole package of friendship and love with this book. I was torn to finish because I didn’t really want to but needed to to see what happened. I’m on love. That’s what happened!!!
