Justin Trainer #1

Guarding the Billionaire

Rate this book
It's a black comedy, no wait, a romcom ... um ... a thriller, maybe suspense, and erotic with a bit of BDSM and a super hot bodyguard looking after his billionaire boss.

It's definitely not all black and white...

I totally lost myself in this, I couldn't stop thinking about it.

He's an ex marine hired to be a bodyguard to a billionaire. Said billionaire is a 29 year old self made man, philanthropist and all around introvert with a liking for (ahem) meditating himself into a lather with a whip.

This narrated by Justin our bodyguard and it's his dry, cynical wit and wry observations that really set this apart. It's not a light read, but witty and enlightening. It reminded me of Bodyguard on the tv with up the intrigue and the attention to detail. The details about his professional feel authentic and I loved how it made me feel immersed in that world.

Justin becomes involved with the billionaire's housekeeper, but the romance didn't feel like the main interest in this story, it's really Justin's story.

The story's not complete, second part is out late June. Available on ku. Highly recommended, especially if you loved Bodyguard on the tv.

This book wasn't anything like I expected. Obviously, the synopsis doesn't reveal much. But I can say that it is so much more than a romance.

The story itself centers around a security specialist, Justin Trainer. While it takes some time for Trainer to settle into a full-time position, working security for a boy band, and a camel (separate jobs, and yes, you read that right), he eventually settles into a position protecting a young billionaire, Devon Anderson.

There is a lot of intrigue about Anderson.
He's never really happy.
He's a constant state of activity - with Trainer in charge of protecting him, he gets a front row view of everything that his boss' live entails.
He's a masochist.
He's gay (maybe).
He is a very different person on "the Farm".

Given how much the beginning part of this story revolved around Trainer and Anderson, I thought this would be a M/M romance. I was wrong. And that's all I'm saying.

As this story is bigger than just the romance with Trainer and his love interest, the author did a great job in character development. Although we never get Anderson's POV, he is given a prominent part in this story, which makes sense since his role is part of the duet title. I also liked the complexities of Trainer's life and how that fits with his love interest.

With the risks that Anderson takes at the Farm, I suspected things would go bad eventually. Although I wouldn't say this book ended in a cliffhanger, it definitely left me some questions. It will be interesting to see where the story leads in book two and what the answers to my questions will be.

THE NAME IS TRAINER. JUSTIN TRAINER and I'm so excited to share the rollercoaster ride of this hapless bodyguard and his twisted billionaire boss. He's also trying to be a daddy to his little girl with an ex-wife who hates him, and find time to pursue the very lovely housekeeper, Rachel.

Extract 1: 260 words
Prologue – The bodyguard and the billionaire

Billionaires. Don’t ya just love ‘em?

Money coming out of their asses. They get their people to call your people, and that’s just to schedule time to take a piss.

I should know. I’m one of the ‘people’ that gets called. Since I left the Marines, I’ve worked for a lot of millionaires, billionaires, gazillionaires. I’ve guarded European royalty and Saudi princes. I’ve stood next to politicians who’ve had death threats, and boybands who get mobbed by women wanting their babies. I’ve seen every vice and virtue, found every flaw, watched the shadows that darken lives.

And now, I’m working for the darkest, most twisted fucker that ever wore an Armani suit. Probably.

I work close protection.

I’m the silent bodyguard at the back of the room.

I’m the eyes watching you.

I’m the ears listening to you.

And I’m the foul-mouthed grunt with the gun who’ll take a bullet for you. Although I’d prefer not to, and if I do my job right, it’ll never come to that.

Intel is everything, so if anyone got the lowdown on my new boss, the media would have a field day. Why? Because the guy who signs my paychecks is a sick fuck, into bondage, domination, sadism and masochism—and that’s before breakfast—with a drawer full of files on his fuck buddies, submissives, who get tied up in his attached dungeon. Usually one at a time, but you never know. Still, at least he’s honest about who he is.

He’s a billionaire.

And I’m the man in black, guarding the billionaire.

Extract 2: 540 words
The bodyguard and the boy band

There’s a certain technique to handling a naked girl—and I mean that in a strictly professional way.

This one looks about sixteen and she wasn’t expecting to see me. Probably because she’s hiding in the closet of Russell Vassal, lead singer of chart-topping boyband Rock Boys.

You’ve never heard of them? Yeah, well, count yourself lucky. I hadn’t heard of them either until I joined their world tour a month ago.

I grab a quilt off the bed, bundle her up and hand her off to a female security officer, hoping that when the kid sees her idols aren’t as squeaky clean as she thought, she’s not traumatized.
But at least she won’t lose her virginity tonight, because it’s my guess that’s what she’s offering. Jeez, she looks so young.

The blond kid, the drummer, is snorting coke off a pair of tits belonging to a red-haired groupie when my phone rings.

I see my wife’s name and my sphincter tightens. Against my better judgement, I answer.

“I’m working, Carla.”

“I want a divorce.”

“I thought you’d never ask.”

“Asshole.”

“Bitch.”

These days, it’s what passes for a conversation with my wife of eleven years.

She takes a deep breath and I can hear the venom in her voice.

“And I’m going for full custody of Lilly. It’s not like you ever see her anyway.”

The call drops and just like that, my evening is officially fucked.

Then the drummer, Derrick, comes in his pants while motorboarding Colombian marching powder.

Sighing, I signal one of the other bodyguards to take him to the bathroom and clean him up, or at least get the evidence out of sight. I’ve already confiscated every cell phone in the room, but I can’t afford to be too careful. There’s money in celebs making asses of themselves, and the person who has the evidence is gonna make some serious moolah.

I’m paid the big bucks to stop that from happening.

Milton, a heavyweight dude covered with tattoos and a scar down one cheek, throws me an annoyed look as he walks toward me, but he doesn’t argue. Instead, he grabs the kid by his collar and manhandles him out of the room.

The groupie stares at me with huge brown eyes, the pupils shrunk to pinpoints. She strokes her tits and offers them up to me, her head cocked on one side.

What, no hello?

I’m not tempted in the slightest. Sloppy seconds from a groupie who’s serviced every guy on the tour bus including Jerome the geriatric driver? No thanks.

Besides, I wasn’t lying to Carla—this is my work. Currently, I’m on tour with the hottest boy band on the planet. At least, that’s what their marketing whizz kid tells me. All I know is that each day I have to listen to their crappy pop music that makes my ears bleed, and each night I have to watch them partying it up with groupies, hookers, and assorted suppliers—meaning dealers.

Their big hit is Strolling with Rocks. No, I’m not making that up.

I’m strolling with rocks
My life full of knocks
Gonna stick that shit
In a damn big box.

Teenagers love it because it’s deep.

The world is doomed.

Like the author says, if you liked Fifty Shades of Gray (FSOG), you will love this story. And if you didn’t like FSOG, you will still love this story. The main character is a bodyguard, not a crazy billionaire with kinky habits. And even though our bodyguard, Justin Trainer, does guard a crazy billionaire, the story is told in a tongue-in-cheek manner which causes frequent and loud laughs. You will still get your sexy times, but of the regular variety, no kink involved.

Justin Trainer is an ex-marine, now working as a bodyguard. He has been touring with rock bands, dealt with the groupies and the druggies. He was also assigned to guard a giraffe, the favorite to win a beauty contest between hundreds of other giraffes. This giraffe has been under attack and Justin’s mission is to prevent any wrongdoings to happen to the beauty queen. And finally, he was assigned to guard Devon Anderson, a 29 y/o billionaire, based in New York. He goes to live in Mr. Anderson’s penthouse which consists of four floors, including a pool in the third floor, and a housekeeper, called Mrs. Smith, slightly older than Justin. She’s 42 to his 33, she’s as sweet as can be and perfect to smooth over Justin’s jagged ends. To everyone he’s a tight-jawed, slitty-eyed menacing looking guy, but with her he’s putty.

So Justin has to guard his boss, accompany him to his daily runs, hear his screams as he auto-punishes himself in the meditation room, hear yucky conversations with his old and disgustingly pervy friend Mr. Landon, and accompany him to his weekend visits to The Farm in Long Island, which is nothing but a place for kinky orgies. Here we do read about some kinky stuff going on, but with Justin’s reactions to it, which makes it hilarious. Reading Justin’s reactions to all this stuff is hysterically funny and I loved the sarcastic tones. But what I found even more funny was Justin’s fear of Abigail Anderson, Devon’s baby sister of eighteen and a real hussy. She pursues Justin like a stalking tigress and poor Justin just runs scared.

Mr. Landon has a suspicious hold over Devon and there’s a menace against Devon and his empire. The tension increases as the story unfolds and Justin is working tirelessly, with the support of the security company he works with. Devon holds many secrets, some of which he won’t share, making Justin’s work more difficult. At the end of this book, the situation is still escalating, there are no answers, so it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger per se, but sort of an impasse.

The book is a fantastic read, entertaining and funny in a very realistic way. Justin’s reactions to everything are exactly like mine would have been in the same situation, including cuss words. I was also touched by Justin’s devotion to his 6 y/o precious daughter and his constant struggle to be a good father to her. He went through a nasty divorce, his ex is being a harridan and making things difficult for them to be together and still he pursues a relation with his daughter. He’s a right decent fellow, and let’s not forget he has a hunky body. I loved it!

"There were a lot of guys like me in the Marines—men and women looking to trade up on the families they'd been given. It's no surprise that there are more foster kids in the armed forces than in any other profession."

With that synopsis, I had no idea what I was in for when I started reading this story. While everything mentioned is true, what I felt the strongest was the suspense... and the super hot bodyguard. 😉

I confess I'm a geek. I totally dig all the behind-the-scenes surveillance and hacking involved when a security team is protecting someone. I get all caught up in the danger and trying to figure out where the threat is coming from and how they're gonna catch the bad guy(s). And, my meddling doesn't end there. Nope, I wanna get all up in the character's personal business too.

I was not quiet with my very strong opinions about some specific characters that shall remain unnamed so as not to spoil it for you. But, I'm positive you'll be willing to join me for some target practice later where we can hang a few photos to aim at. Yes, you got that right, there is more than one person that raised my hackles.

I also have to give the author a shout out for the entertaining inner dialogue and witty banter. That beautiful bodyguard has brains too, he's not just muscle. "And I should also mention that he has a very dirty mouth and he doesn't care when or where he uses it."

After surviving years in the military, Justin is no stranger to pain, and he recognizes it in his boss. "You can't un-see Hell." He doesn't have any details...so I don't have any details. But, we both have our suspicions. As the suspense built and I was about to bite off my last nail I swiped my finger across my Kindle to turn the page, but THERE WERE NO MORE PAGES! So, let's all keep up with our target practice until we get our hands on Saving the Billionaire. The line forms here...

Strap in for a suspense filled and intense journey with sexy bodyguard Justin Trainer. Trainer is protection for hire, being ex-military, he has all the skills and loyalty to handle any situation. The one situation he struggles with the most is his ex-wife and getting time to spend with Lilly, the daughter he adores. I love those moments where you truly get to see his softer side as Lilly has him wrapped around her finger. He gets called in to protect Devon Anderson, a billionaire facing some threats. This is where all the mystery begins as Trainer learns the ins and outs of Devon’s life and all the details he works hard to keep out of the public eye. One benefit is the housekeeper, Rachel, that Trainer is immediately drawn to. She provides a level of normalcy in all the crazy that Devon’s life brings to the job Trainer is there to do. I was pulled in immediately, needing to know all the secrets and shocked at what Trainer learns. At the same time, rooting for Trainer to find a balance in his life as he rebuilds after the military and his divorce. I’m very excited to find out how the mysteries unravel in book 2. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.

I’ve been agonising over this review for a couple of days, trying to put into words how to sum this book up. It’s everything, all wrapped up in one delicious package. There’s romance, suspense, BDSM, blackmail, comedy (close protection for a camel?) and so much more.

Justin Trainer is the bodyguard in charge of ensuring billionaire Devon Anderson’s security and safety. From what, we’re not initially sure, other than it may be ‘low level’.

Justin deals with everything in such a thorough way - much like the author does with this book. Everything is obviously meticulously researched and the level of detail enhances the book.

Devon obviously has many, many skeletons in his closet, some of which are hinted at and some are revealed through the book. I’m glad the second part to this duet is due soon; I don’t think I can wait much longer to find out.

Justin’s romance with the exquisite Mrs Smith, Devon’s housekeeper, is a secondary theme here. The beautiful widow brings out the better side of Justin, something his dragon of an ex-wife couldn’t or wouldn’t do.

I’ve fallen for this bodyguard hook, line and sinker and I cannot wait to see where the story will take me.

I've read several books by Jane Harvey-Berrick up to now but I never know what exactly to expect. In this case, I had a bit of a hard time with our hero's boss and his sexuality or rather the ways he is living his sexuality. Despite the fact that we learn a lot about the billionaire's sexuality and his preferences, he stays a bit vague, a bit flat. We know that he may be bi or asexual or ...whatever but we definitely know that he is deeply troubled.
I must admit that I don't like all this BDSM stuff and all that (I hadn't realized that there would be elements of that in the story even though we just hear about it as something that happens in the background) but in this case, my problems stemmed from the fact that Anderson, our billionaire boss, is deeply troubled and doesn't seem to be able to deal with his own lifestyle - or his other problems. He seems to be nice but... And he is not the only one who is messed up and the more we learn about that, the more I was upset. Buuuut- back to our hero and lets finally get to our heroine as well.
Justin Trainer, ex-military, now bodyguard, has a lot of baggage with his wife getting a divorce and keeping him from his daughter when he is also dealing with all the - let's say...interesting...aspects of Anderson's life while trying to protect him. I must also admit that I was almost a bit astonished when I realized that there is a heroine who will very soon become an important part of Trainer's life because I wasn't sure when I read the blurb where his personal interests would lie. Those two though, they are sweet and I just love to see them together and I was so worried when things went south and ...well.
This was a book that shocked me, that also annoyed me, that made me laugh and when I turned the last page - I should have known better, I should have known that she'd do it again...and now I have to wait for the next book to find out how things go on. Did I mention that I hate cliffhangers? *sigh* I do. And I am waiting not so patiently now....
On the whole this book was completely different from what I expected and I had a bit of a hard time to get into it at the beginning but in the end, Jane Harvey-Berrick did her magic again and I really enjoyed this book.

There are a lot of romance books about billionaires with a kinky side, who surround themselves with an army of employees. These stories follow the rich guy falling in love, but how about the people that work for them? What do they think of their boss’s antics? Guarding the Billionaire tells the story of Justin Trainer, who works as a bodyguard for the rich and famous. I’ve enjoyed the first part of the Duet very much.
“I’m the silent bodyguard at the back of the room. I’m the eyes watching you. I’m the ears listening to you.”

Justin (or Trainer, as he goes by his last name most of the time) is a former Marine who now works as a bodyguard. In his army days he has seen humanity at its worst, but being a bodyguard isn’t a walk in the park either. Working closely with rich/famous people makes him a voyeur of all the good, bad and ugly that money can buy. His current ‘project’ is Devon, a young billionaire; very smart and with some kinky tastes. But Trainer likes the guy, and the other people who work for him. He even meets Rachel, someone who makes him feel a better man.
“Rachel…?” “Yes?” “Do you still want to go on a date? With me?” She smiles slowly and nods. “Yes, very much.”

Trainer is a good guy. He knows he has made mistakes in the past, but he tries to make up and do better. Guarding the Billionaire is mostly told through his eyes, so we get to know Trainer pretty well. He lives as an observer in a world that is not his, where rich people do as they please, forgetting the people who work for them. Most of the story is about Trainer and the guy he guards, but there’s also room for romance. Since this is part one of a duet, I’m very curious for the second book. I need to know what will happen with Devon and with Rachel.
“Everyone has a price. Even me.”

Guarding the Billionaire is not your same old, run of the mill, billionaire love story. We really are getting two stories in one. We have a wonderful ex-Marine, Justin Trainer, dealing with his failed marriage and trying to wrangle time with his daughter. And he really doesn't like his first name, lol. He's the bodyguard to billionaire Devon Anderson. Devon is a pretty tortured soul from some traumatic events (yet to be revealed, but I suspect) that happened in his childhood. He is into self inflicted pain and BDSM and so much more. He is a good man though and shows it by helping Trainer get better visitation with his daughter. Justin is having a relationship with Mr Anderson's housekeeper, Rachel, who is older than him and doesn't think she has another great love in her. Wonderful characters keep you invested in the story and I found myself wondering if Trainer will find the happiness he deserves and will he be able to "save" his boss from his secrets. I can't wait for the rest of this story to unfold in the next book, Saving the Billionaire.

Always a unique read from Jane Harvey-Berrick! I hadn't even read the blurb when I requested an ARC to read, I just trust her writing will thrill me to no end. Justin Trainer, ex-Marine going through a nasty divorce, is on close protection detail for billionaires. Rock stars, Saudi princes or agribusiness genius? He's guarded them all. Currently his boss is Devon Anderson, eccentric billionaire with a taste for the kinky. I found myself enthralled with Justin's story and how he perceives his boss, trying to maintain a straight face and his dignity was great comic relief. I enjoyed how the story was about Justin, his point of view, and not just the billionaire. I'm so done with the billionaire storyline, this is much more about those with the inside track to the boss. Definitely looking forward to Saving the Billionaire.

I went into this not really knowing what to expect and ended up being pleasantly surprised. This book is about an ex military guy who is hired to be protection for this young billionaire. The billionaire is a self made billionaire but he has a dark side. There was an air of mystery around him and as I was reading and going on the journey with his chief protection officer I was shocked at the secrets and scandals that were uncovered. I loved Trainer and his vent!needs with his daughter and with Rachel too. He was swoon worthy. This book was a bit like a twisted version of fifty shades but with lots of suspense, drama and intrigue. I for one cannot wait to see what happens next.

5 out of 5 stars

I like that this book isn’t just about the main character. I liked that it was mostly from one point of view. I loved that it was surprising on almost every page. I also loved having very little idea of what to expect from the synopsis of the book on Goodreads.

Justin Trainer, the bodyguard, has done his time in the military and is now a successful personal protection expert. His new client is a bit of a mystery, but it’s the new client’s housekeeper that gets Trainer’s full attention.

One of my favorite lines from the book is when Trainer meets one of his client’s friends:

“So, you’re the bodyguard,” he sneers.
I somehow don't think we’re going to be buddies.
“Yep, and you’re the ***hole. I think we’ve gotten acquainted now.”

This so tells you about Trainer’s personality and the fun that you’ll have while reading. The book is full of everything - humor, suspense, action, love and more. It’s a great read and I can NOT wait for book 2!!!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review! Jane Harvey Berrick is one of my absolute favorite authors!

Guarding the Billionaire is like FSOG on steroids! We meet Justin Trainer, an ex Marine in the business of providing security for the wealthiest of the wealthy! In comes the secretive, allusive and dominant Mr. Anderson.

There is much suspense, debauchery, blackmail and hilarity all rolled up into one. Justin struggles balancing his job while trying to maintain a relationship with his adorable little girl Lily! It’s what motivates him to continue taking jobs, although away from her, to provide her a good life! It’s what good dads do!
In the midst of keeping Mr.Anderson’s private life private…we meet Rachel Smith…who turns Justin’s life outside down!

All through the book Mr. Anderson remains a huge mystery! I can’t wait to read what he has in store for “I’m funny on Tuesdays” Ms. Alvarez!

5 star Review of Guarding The Billionaire by Jane Harvey-Berrick

Jane Harvey-Berrick is a new author to me and what a way to be introduced to her writing. I had no real idea what this book was going to be abut when I volunteered to rad it but I am so glad that I did.

Having served his country, in an effort to save his struggling marriage, Justin leaves the forces and takes up a job doing personal protection and security. Sadly, his marriage is no more but he certainly finds his work to be a wide variety of jobs. His latest detail is working for Mr. Anderson, a young , wealthy man who has a dark cloud looming over him as he continues to fight his demons.

I really liked Trainer, I found him to be humorous and extremely likeable , not to mention hot. From the first chapter the author had me hook, line and sinker. I read this book in almost one go as I could not put it down.

I loved how Ms. Harvey-Berrick used Justin Trainer’s internal dialogue as the humour for this book. His internal musings and thoughts had me laughing out loud at times. It was also interesting to read and watch the chemistry and tension between Trainer and Rachel, the housekeeper build.

The suspense, mystery, and action was spot on and I am intrigued now more than ever by
Mr. Anderson and what has occurred to shape him into the man that he is today and cannot wait to learn more when Saving The Billionaire releases.

The book lacked any true eroticism to really peak the deviant senses and rather than delving into true darkness it teased with blinking lights and safe bland passages. There are two heroes. Anderson is the silent and broken billionaire.A hero with a savoir complex, saving everyone but himself as he beats himself regularly with barbed whips into the blackness of night in the sanctuary of his mediation room while maintaining cold control during in the light of day.

Justin Trainer is a cocky, annoyingly judgemental ex marine living from paycheck to paycheck and is in the process of divorcing a shrew of a wife all the while sexing it up with Sarah,a middle-aged house keeper who is 10 years older than him in his employer's penthouse whom he is supposed to be guarding at all costs.

The Freak or McTwisted as the downtrodden hero continuously refers to his billionaire employer as is a bit off putting as the man pays him a salary above any that he had previously earned, pays for his daughter's education at an elite school and provides him with an expensive lawyer to gain more visiting rights with his child whom he barely sees without being asked for a thing in return.

There is barely a coherent understanding nor any kind of bond between the two men as any exchange between them is sparse, non existent and mostly visual through out the entire book. The only blurring of lines is the two acts of kindness the enigmatic billionaire gifts the bodyguard with.

There are a couple of orgies which the mysterious billionaire attends scattered through out the book but these are written almost clinically and without much detail. The bodyguard is mostly left observing the general orgy with all the emotions of a Neanderthal man frozen in a prehistory glacier while the billionaire indulges with lifeless perfection privately behind closed doors.

The book has the skeleton of something that could be a captivating series but because of this first emotionless rendering I'm hoping it warms up in the next offering.Maybe breathe some life into Anderson.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish.  Justin Trainer is a brilliant character, extremely loyal with an awesome sense of humour.  Mr Anderson is a weird-billionaire-genius with major issues.

If you are a romance reader then you will have come across the tormented billionaire story and probably fallen in 'book-boyfriend' love with him, however have you ever paid any attention to his bodyguard? The silent man in the background, the keeper of his secrets, and the one who see's the man inside.  If, like me, you had more of a crush on Taylor then Mr. Grey then you will love Justin Trainer, the man 'Guarding The Billionaire'.

Ex-Marine, Justin Trainer, now works in Close Protection, essentially he is a bodyguard.  Getting jobs from his former C/O turned security specialist he finds himself on some weird and wonderful assignments.  His latest job is Head of Security for billionaire Devon Anderson.  Devon is a closed-off businessman who prefers to stay out of the limelight, however he does harbour a very large secret and that is his need for self-flagellation and kinky (BDSM style) sex. Devon does not make Trainer's life easy, often disregarding his advice and not telling Trainer pertinent information.

During his time with the elusive Mr Anderson, Trainer forms an attachment to Mrs Smith, the housekeeper.  He also has a sever disliking of Mr Anderson's 'family friend' Mr Landon. And don't even getting me started on his thoughts about Mr Anderson's 'meditation' room!  So you maybe thinking this all sounds very familiar, you would right.  If you have read Fifty then you will notice a resemblance in the story and the characters. Don't worry though, this is a different story, different perspective and... just different.

This book encompasses a number of genres - comedy, romance, BDSM and mystery/suspense. The comedy side is absolutely hilarious.  Trainer has a very dry wit and most of the comedic aspect comes from his private thoughts and opinions.

The BDSM side is based around Mr Anderson's predilections and although these are touched on it is often from Trainer's POV, there are some graphic descriptions but nothing too disturbing (in my opinion).

Really looking forward to reading the next in the series - Saving the Billionaire

Well, I can honestly say that Harvey-Berrick has pleasantly surprised me. Billionaire romance is one of my fave tropes; however, this read which overflows with the laugh-out-loud scenes, cutting sarcasm and intrigue is unique in the respect that it's a reversal of what I'd thought it would be. Remember bodyguard/driver Jason in 50? Then you'll get my meaning!

I couldn't help liking Justin Trainer, ex-Marine and professional bodyguard. A loving father, divorced and a tad pushed for cash...yeah, what happens when there's a messy break-up, landing a well-paid job meant being able to think about his little girl's future and having more quality time with her if of course, his ex would allow it. While he describes how he copes with his daughter's mother's shirty attitude, my heart went out to him. She's a nasty piece of work, totally unreasonable, selfish and not surprisingly, explicit language flies left, right and centre when things get heated.

‘BODYGUARDS, we’re deeply misunderstood. We’re not unthinking, uncaring masses of muscle and testosterone, we have feelings, too.’

A man of few words, Devon Anderson’s a real enigma. Quite young to be a self-made billionaire, he’s generosity and concern for the wellbeing of others is highlighted throughout the story. He's not so normal free time activity still remains a mystery, and I’m really looking forward to finding out the reason behind his behaviour in the room. Trainer's been hired to protect him and to make sure that what goes on behind closed doors stays there. And believe you me, his loyalty to his boss is unquestionable. Actually, Devon worried me. I couldn’t ignore his loneliness and even though he does have a close friend, Trainer doesn’t trust this individual with a barge pole. Hmm, we’ll just have to wait to see what happens ‘cause the vibes I’d been getting weren’t in the slightest bit positive.

‘Would I take someone out of the equation just to preserve the boss’s secret? It ought to be a black and white question, but it’s not.’

Rachel, the housekeeper, knows one of the ways to the man's heart she's her eyes on is through his stomach! Yes, they’re attracted to each other and yes, she's older than him which I liked a hell of a lot. Despite Trainer’s flirtatious manner, he takes his job very seriously and ‘fraternizing’ with this gorgeous staff member could lose him his job. Voicing her desires gives him that much-needed push so when they do eventually...you know...get to it, there's no stopping them. Like dirty talkers? The sexual innuendos that rolled off Trainer's tongue made Rachel and I blush and he's not one to hold back in the bedroom, either.

“Babe, if my book was about you, it would be called ‘Cooking for the Billionaire’. But it’s not. It’s all about me.”
“Men! It’s always about them! As if the sun revolves around you.”

There's more inner monologue than banter but this gave me an x-ray insight into Trainer's thoughts and feelings. That being said, the quirky dialogue had me in fits, the turkey scene was beyond hilarious and the camel sketch...simply no words! Rachel’s witty comebacks, the drama, non-stop action and interesting characters all make this a read you won’t want to miss. Roll on Saving the Billionaire! Harvey-Berrick’s spoiling her readers and releasing the second book in this duet in no time at all. Bravo!

‘The turkey fought well, but I am The Victor. Eat that, turkey brains.’

Cynical? Me? You ain't seen nothing yet.

This line sums up the start of the story. Justine Trainer is ex military who's attitude is to say it how it is. His character is comical although professional.

Trainer is a personal close protection officer or bodyguard since exiting the military. Trainer has a big heart and you warm to his character quickly. What makes him even more likeable is his humour. I love how the author has made his wit in the book. He mainly is thinking in his head what he can't always say out loud. The book has a perfect mixture of humour and seriousness.

Anderson is a self made millionaire at a young age however, there is a dark side to him. He is focused, determined and spends his time working. The author has given us a man of mystery in this book and I cannot wait to see how Anderson unravels in the next book and if we will finally find out more about him.

To mix it up we also have the plain Jane maid, Rachel. She can see no bad in most people and just wants to care.

There are some other unruly characters in the book but I don't want to give too much away. This is a book mixed with action, intrigue,l and love.

Favourite quotes from the book, I have mane more but shall leave it to the readers to discover these:

Justin Trainer:
'But I have faced down terrorists with RPG's and my soon to be ex wife when she is PMSing'.

'It was completely FUBAR, fucked up beyond all recognition'.

'excuse me while I look for my law degree'

This was boring AF! When this seemed to be going no where exciting after 100 pages i skimmed through the rest and it didn't get much more interesting. It was poorly executed.

Received An ARC for a honest review. Absolutely adored this story of Mr Trainer, was completely hooked from the start and immediately wanted part 2 to find out how his and Mr Andersons story concludes, which i am now currently reading. It makes you laugh, cry and also get abit angry at parts but thats what makes it soo gripping and not want to put it down

Wow!

It’s 50 shades from Taylor’s point of view! I have to say the billionaire Devon is very similar to Christian. But with a twist. It has humor, drama and love. Oh yeah and sex. I highly recommend. To bad E.L James didn’t think of telling a story from Taylor’s point of view.

Not at all what I was expecting....

So...for those of us who have read FSoG...

I felt like a voyeur - watching Taylor and Mrs. Jones have sexy times. It just creeped me out.

For everyone who doesn’t know who those characters are.....Jack Trainer is hired to protect Devon Anderson, a young, wealthy entrepreneur with questionable taste in friends. However, as he settles into his job, Trainer falls hard for Rachel, Devon’s housekeeper, who gets put in harm’s way as her boss’s enemies close in.

I didn’t realize that this was part of a series...and ends in a Cliffie....which I don’t care for. So...one more reason not to like the book.

Also...it’s pretty PG-rated...so there’s that.

Wow this was not quite what I was expecting from this story but it was better!
Unsure whether I wanted to read yet another romance book this book managed to make my little reading heart feel better by having everything thrown into one book!
Romance... fun.. drama... some kinkiness.. some hotness.. and so much sarcatarsic comments I laughed more than once when reading!
Mr Grey with a huge twist is one way I could sum this book up but I think I'd take Mr Trainer over Grey any day!
Jane has smashed this giving us yet another fantastic read... cant wait to start book 2!
