Midnight Breed #16

Break the Day

Rate this book
After a shocking betrayal nearly killed him and the people he cares about the most, what Breed warrior Rafe wants more than anything is revenge against the insidious brotherhood called Opus Nostrum. But to achieve that goal, he must turn his back on the Order and infiltrate a dangerous gang with ties to Opus. Risking everything to redeem himself and carry out his deep-cover mission, Rafe will let nothing stand in his way--least of all his desire for one of the loyalists he should despise, a mysterious, dark-haired beauty named Devony Winters. But Devony has secrets of her own to protect, as well as a personal duty she will do anything to fulfill. And as a daywalker passing herself off as human to the gang she's been embedded with for months, the last thing she needs is a dangerous former member of the Order unraveling all her hard work. Her plans depend on keeping Rafe at arm's length, but if she surrenders to the dark need he stirs within her, it will be her heart that pays the ultimate price. Contains mature themes.

Another utterly fabulous read ,I always get so excited when a new book comes out from the amazingly talented writer!!! I love visiting the world of these otherworldly vampires!!! And Rafe and Devony's book was all I could have hoped for!!! After what happened to rafe in Claimed in Shadows by that conniving bitch Iona ,rafe felt not only betrayed but also responsible for those who died at the peace talks. So when he goes undercover to get closer to finding the heads of Opus Nostrum he crosses paths with a female gang member who is more then she seems. I don't want to give too much away, but I will tell you that everything you love about the breed is hotter and the twists and turns are awesome and if that isn't enough theirs the heat and steam factor because Rafe is one sexy breed warrior with buckets full of Smouldering sexuality,And devony is a smart strong and very gifted breed female and a worthy mate to rafe!! Lara's breed series is delishous and intensely erotic and so very well written and it just seems to get better and better with each book!! Vampires and sex,it just doesn't get any better then this!! Until next time luv's💖💋

It is always nice to come back to this world!

Rafe and Devony

Rafe is the only son of one my favourite couples in Midnight Breeds. He is the son of Dante and Tess (Kiss of Crimson). Being a Breed warrior, he does not hesitate to take his efforts to the extreme..
As a result, while he tries to infiltrate Opus Nostrum group, he will become an enemy of his old team and he will be pushed away by his old co-warriors and childhood friends.

Devony on the other hand pretends to be human, although she is not even similar to a human being. Truly she is a daywalker, part of the rarest of the Breeds with very strong powers and with the ability to walk in the daylight without being toasted burned.

Devony wants the same end result. She wants revenge like Rafe. Rafe will understand almost immediately what she is and consequently he will need to decide whether he will allow her to help him or he will hand her over to the other Breeds in order to be protected. As a breedsmate, she needs to be protected and cherished in a safe Darkhaven.

Big strong Rafe will be amazed by Devony who keeps saving him instead the other way around.

Another fun story in this amazing lengthy but still fresh-feeling series. With bloodthirsty but protective males and kick ash females.

Rafe and Devony will share a sizzling hot attraction, while they are fighting the Order's worst enemy.

“Want to hear a secret? I was hoping you’d follow me back here. Because ever since you walked into this bar tonight, all I can think about is how long I’d have to wait before I could feel you inside me again.”

Fantastic!

I can’t believe that BREAK THE DAY is already the sixteenth book in the Midnight Breed series. Lara Adrian pens another fun and exciting story for readers with Rafe and Devony.

Now with so many books already out in a series, often a series can get a little bit old or repetitive. However, I found that with this series, and this book in particular, Lara Adrian is capable of bringing forth stories that are fun and engaging without being too repetitive. Take Rafe’s situation for example. As a former Breed member, he will go through experiences that none of the other characters of this book go through. I really loved this twist and found it to bring so much excitement and intrigue to this series.

So while Adrian does keeps things fresh, there’s also another part of her writing that likes to stay true to the genre and the previous books in the series. For example, I found Devony’s character to be a nice reminder of why I love this genre. It’s been a while since I’ve read a Paranormal Romance, but Lara Adrian and the Midnight Breed series always makes me remember why I love it. Devony’s tough personality is so consistent with the heroines in this genre that it brought back good memories of this series. I think that this element, combined with the new twists in the series, makes the Midnight Breed series by Lara Adrian a must-read.

AFTER READING:

Rafe & Devony were so exciting to read about. Their relationship simple yet dynamic, sincere without too much drama. Both main characters had a behavior that was understandable, both of them had trust issues.

One of the main reasons I love Lara Adrian is her habit of planning ahead. When asked about her 2nd Arc of the series she said that there will be 8 books. One book was with Zael & Brynne and the main reason for this book was to introduce us to the culture of Atlanteans. Other 5 books featured children of the main ones from the 1st Arc; Kellan Archer & Mira, Nathan, Carys, Aric and now Rafe. That leaves us with Micah & Darion Thorne. I liked how they casually mentioned Micah, son of Tegan & Elise, that he & his team are MIA. His book is next, I guess. That means that Darion Thorne, son of Lucan & Gabrielle, will be the last one featured if my logic is correct. If you think about it, it makes a cosmic sense that the Midnight Breed series started with Lucan and that it will finish with the story of his son.

4.5 stars!

You would think that after 15 books in this series, plus a whole heap of novellas, that it may be running out of steam. But nope! Book #16 in the Midnight Breed series, and this book is just as exciting and unexpected as its predecessors, with a beautifully passionate and emotional love story. I loved it, and was hooked from start to finish!

I am loving this second story arc featuring the children of the original couples of the series, and this time, it’s Rafe’s turn. Rafe Malebranche is the son of Dante and Tess (from book #2 in the series, Kiss of Crimson). A fierce warrior for the Order just like his friends and his father before him, Rafe is still reeling from a devastating betrayal in the last book that almost saw his friends and family killed. Now out on his own, he is desperate for revenge and is hunting for the evil organisation known as Opus Nostrum, making connections to a local gang as part of his plan to get close to the bad guys.

Devony is a woman who has lost everything and is living a secret life. She’s a member of the Breed – a Daywalker - pretending to be a human for the gang she has infiltrated while gathering information in her search for the very same organisation that Rafe is hunting for. She is strong, intelligent, powerful and fiercely determined, and I absolutely love her! Rafe's arrival terrifies her though, as he is the only one who can out her for what she truly is, but she soon finds an unexpected ally in the gorgeous warrior when they realise that they have the same ultimate goal.

Teaming up to share information and protect each other’s backs, Rafe and Devony soon discover that they have more in common than just their enemy, sharing a sizzling attraction that is seriously intense.

“Ah, fuck,” he uttered raggedly against her lips.
“This wasn’t supposed to happen.
You weren’t supposed to happen, Devony.”
She hadn’t been prepared for him, either.

Their working partnership soon becomes so much more as their chemistry ignites and they find themselves falling and falling hard for each other. It’s sexy, intense and full of feels, and I freaking loved watching it happen for them! It’s such a beautiful, emotional, swoony romance, and if you thought Dante was a sensational romantic hero, just wait until you meet his son…. Damn!

“You’re not alone anymore,” he uttered, his deep voice raw with tenderness…and desire.
“Make me believe it, Rafe.”

The danger increases when the two of them come to the attention of the very organisation they are hunting, and when devastating secrets are revealed, it’s all about to go down.

It’s no great surprise, but I loved this book. Another wonderful mix of action, intrigue, romance and paranormal badassery. It’s everything that I love about this world, and Rafe and Devony’s story is a wonderful addition to the series. I love them individually, I love them as a couple, and I love the interactions with the characters that we have come to love through the earlier books.

Another fantastic read from Ms Adrian, and I can’t wait for what I assume is Micah (Tegan & Elise son)’s book next!

4.5 stars!

Rafe and Devony were brilliant! I loved Devony’s feisty attitude and her sharp mind. She had a lot of grief and angst to work through and Rafe was in the right place at the right time to fill that need.

Even though he looked like a rough and tough warrior, Rafe’s innate goodness still peeked through, showing a very humane side. His duty to the Order versus his feelings for Devony highlighted his indecisiveness, while driving the point home just how torn he was between his past and future.

These two had sparks from the start and low and behold did Adrian deliver on the romantic side!! Sultry with a sweet surrender of inevitability, Rafe and Devony swept me away with their attraction!

I’ve been reading the Breed series since the second book released...okay, waaaaay back when...and have been a devoted fan ever since! Sexy romances, alpha heroes, strong heroines, and great story lines never fail to keep me occupied way into the night! And with a couple of surprise twists and plenty of action, Break the Day was a fabulous addition to the Breed series!

I was so excited when I found out this was Rafe's book. I love his parents (Tess and Dante from book 2 in the series, Kiss of Crimson) and I've liked what we've seen of his character in the last few books so I was curious to meet the woman who would steal his heart. Rafe is still reeling from the betrayal he suffered in the previous book and it's made him more determined than ever to help the Order bring down the Opus Nostrum terrorist group. So much that he's agreed to go undercover and he's even let his entire team believe that he was kicked out of the order and has gone over to the dark side to do it. Rafe's task is to infiltrate a group of criminals that the Order believe has ties to Opus and to try and get more information.

Rafe immediately suspects there is something off about one of the gang's members. Devony just doesn't quite fit the profile and that has nothing to do with how attractive he finds her. Devony actually has her own reasons for infiltrating the gang, she lost everything in the London attacks organised by Opus and she's going to do whatever it takes to avenge her family and stop the terrorists from destroying more lives. When secrets are revealed the two agree to work together but Rafe is still holding back and it could end up costing him everything.

Break the Day was another fab instalment in this series, lots of action and some progress made against Opus Nostrum but more than anything I loved the steamy romance between Rafe and Devony. I also really like that we now have female breed members too and I love that Devony is a Daywalker like Caris and Aric. Devony never had any formal training so it was a little hard to believe she'd managed to infiltrate the criminal group but she did have a lot of her father's old notes and she's obviously really smart so I was able to push that to one side easily. I enjoyed seeing her work together alongside Rafe and I think she's going to be quite an asset to the Order in the future. The fight is definitely hotting up and I'm looking forward to seeing Opus Nostrum destroyed once and for all.

If you are fan of this series, then you will like this book as well. The formula is the exact same. Rafe is a member of the brotherhood (The Breeds) trying to protect Boston and the Workd from Opus Nostrum, who are intensifying their attacks and plans to take over the world. But Rafe found himself used as a pawn by an Opus double agent who got him to fall in love with her. Now Rafe trusts no one and feels like he let his Breed friends down. His sole mission now is to redeem himself and bring down Opus Nostrum.

While working on a lead, he meets Devony, a part of a group he believes are carrying out O.N. plans. But the more he works with her, the more he’s drawn to her. He knows he can’t have her and his redemption so he makes a choice. It was definitely one that created drama with Devony. But I was confident it would resolve itself. Devony was really a smart and strong heroine.

I love this series and I love that many of my favorite Breeds and their mates were part of this journey. Tegan, Sterling Chase, Lucian, Gideon etc, made this feel like the same plot that I started reading a decade ago.

Oh Boy I really enjoyed Break the Day. This is Rafe's story he is the son of Tess and Dante from bk2 Kiss of Crismson Midnight Breed series.

Rafe is on a mission to get back his good name. After almost causing the death of all the people he love when he was betrayed by the women he love He is also, undercover! He is determined to bring down Opus Norstrum Opus Norstum is trying to take power of the world. Rafe meets Devony/Brinks when is infiltraing a gang believed to have ties to Opus Norstrum. But he soon realizes Devony is not human as she is pretending to be. Devony's is on her own mission to bring down Opus Norstrum.

The story was faced paced and very well written. I love Rafe and Devony!!

Sometimes you read a series and can't believe you are so far into it. I mean, this is the 16th book in this series, folks and it is still exciting. The writer managed to keep the stories fresh and moving along. We are into the next generation and enjoying watching what they are doing with the changes in their world. We have daywalkers now. Women who are Breed, whereas before it was a purely male group. The nice touch is that they have all the same powers as the men but can walk in the day without becoming crispy critters.
In this installment the son of a couple we watched fall in love in book 2 is trying to atone for something that happened in a previous book. (Without trying to spoil it too much, just know that it would have meant the death of a lot of our favorite characters.) Although no one blames him, he feels he must make amends. So he goes undercover to get the characters one step closer to finding the Number One Bad Guy. What our hero doesn't expect to find is our heroine. Now the two must work together or the NOBG might win this one.
Excellent story that moves the overall plot along beautifully!

4.5 // Arc through Bookfunnel

I've read this series since the very beginning over a decade ago; it's a favourite among all my favourite series. While I love it, it might not be to your taste if your taste differs from mine. If you don't like action, romance, vampires, paranormal, this is not for you. If you like those things, you might like it, but as said, our tastes might differ. This is written in my own words in point of view of my own experience of this title and series it's a part of.

This is a PNR FM suspense and action title of 298 pages with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It's the 16th installment in a paranormal vampire romance series. The series has an ongoing suspense plot while also having all titles dedicated to some particular couple. The vampires are called Breed. Hence the series name.

In this title we get to experience the romance between Devony, a Daywalker, offspring of a Breed family herself like too is Rafe. Rafe is the son of Tess and the famous Dante who we got to know at the beginning of the series. One circle is kind of closed in here. Rafe has inherited the healing gift from his mother. Devony has gifts of her own. She ends up saving Rafe as well Rafe Devony while the story proceeds.

Once again in here the main plot advances somewhat while Devony and Rafe at first meet and end up exploring the mutually discovered attraction neither can seem to help. There's truths and secrets to be uncovered. There's lots of suspense, action, excitement and romance like we've used to in this series. There's not a boring moment. The title is very much action-packed and the romance is hot.

There's really nothing negative for me. It felt like I'm used to reading this series in general. It fullfilled my expectations of a new title. The writing is great, I've no problem with editing, characters, their actions, personalities, the plot. You get immersed in it and pulled into it. It's also great to read stories where the female main character also is a strong capable persona, an active Breed character. An equal to the male hero.

It was a very good and entertaining read for me, like this series has always typically been. If you're unfamiliar with the series, I recommend starting from the beginning.

description

I haven't been reading a lot of paranormal romances in the last couple of years, however, I try to throw in a couple of them to keep up to date with the series I started. The Midnight Breed series is one of my favorites and I read the first book at least 10 years ago. I tried to read Break the Day last year but couldn't get into it so I put it down, however, I decided to pick it up again because I was in the right mood.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were great. I especially loved Devony's strength and determination. Furthermore, she wasn't afraid to show her softer and more vulnerable side to Rafe. Which I really liked. This book isn't slow-burn but I wasn't in the mood for that anyways. I kind of liked that it was fast-paced and that the author got straight to the point. It was great being reunited with previous characters and seeing what they were up to. The balance between romance and action was good. Break the Day is a great addition to the series, and I look forward to starting the next book.

2.5* Better than the last read, just. Nice romance, the plot about OPUS same same so it's getting tiring. Picking up the plot and where OPUS is at isn't easy when the books are published on a yearly basis. I had to have a quick glance at the last book just to remind myself. This was one of my fav series and Lara Adrian has done well to strech it so far but enough. It's like an ageing athlete, should know to retire when the going's good.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. After the ending of Claimed In Shadows, then reading the blurb for Break The Day, I was seriously worried about Rafe. He had faced a lot and I was scared that he was going to be scarred for life. My fear was quickly assuaged within the first chapter or so, and I felt a ton better.

We are still after the elusive Opus Nostrum, and the investigation continues. Rafe is determined to find out who nearly killed all he loves. Then he finds a female who's goals are the same but she actually did lose everyone she loved to this group. They meet up investigating the same group of criminals. Devony is a day walker so she can hide her true nature a lot easier than Rafe. I thought that if this group they were looking into was working for Opus, that they would refuse the help of a Breed, but they accept him easily enough. Although that might be for the wrong reasons.

I felt like we jumped into the action fast and that while there was definitely the romance portion between Rafe and Devony, the intensity of the fight against Opus was at the forefront. I was kind of disappointed with just how badly Devony took Rafe's situation and really didn't expect her to go as far as she did. I'm so glad Rafe did not give up on her and we do continue onto an HEA after some terribly tense moments.

Hillary Huber does a great job on this series and I enjoyed listening to this installment of the Midnight Breed. I'm feeling much more comfortable with the characters. I was initially a little strange with them because they were all children of my favorite characters, but I seem to be over that and am seeing them as the adults they are. I'm excited for the next book and see how much the Order grows and how close they can get to Opus. Opus has some wicked dangerous tricks up their sleeves and my worry for all my Breed favorites is at stake! This review was originally posted on Rantings of a Reading Addict

Klappentext

Fantastic addition to the Breed series. I love Rafe, always have. He’s been so important in other books that him finally getting his own is great. Devony is the perfect mate for him. She is such a strong woman. I just love this series it gets better and better with every book.

I thought Rafe needs too much time understanding nothing about what happened in Montreal was his fault, he keeps wallowing in self hate even when everyone around him tells him he's not to blame.
Devony is really interesting, she's on a crusade to avenge her family and for someone who was always put aside by her parents she's really strong and resourceful.
On the other side the plot with Opus Nostrum doesn't really progress.

* You need to read the previous books to understand this story at all. This is not a standalone entry.

After the disaster in Montreal that almost killed his family and his friends, Rafe drops out of the Order on a special ops mission of his own. Hunting down Opus Nostrum while following underground leads, he meets a mysterious daywalking Breed Female named Devony. As they have the same goal to take Opus Nostrum down they decide to combine their powers, but an organisation like that will always be one step ahead. And Rafe and Devony might be the ultimate price for that.

Pro's:
+ This story is a thrillride from beginning to the very last letter. A constant, steady stream of action all for your reading pleasures. Rafe and Devony constantly infiltrate with the gang and go on heists with them, which is a bit different from all the previous books as those are mostly about 'good' missions and actions.
+ I felt there is a lot of character growth in this book, which was lacking with a couple of the previous books. Rafe hit his low point in the last book and in this book he finds himself again and following him in his journey is really fun to read and very interesting.

Con's:
- The romance starts really strong and promising but somewhere along the way Devony loses her spine and then the whole romance becomes kind of mweh. I would have found it way more enjoyable if Devony would have continued to more stand up for herself.

Overall quite an enjoyable story, which is very easy and light to read. The romance, the second part of it anyway, is not so good, but the rest of the story is quite entertaining. In comparison to the previous book I found this book had way more action-packed events, downside of that is that there is not much downtime between them ( sexy-time scenes not included). The story has not ended here though and there are no new books in this series ( at the time of writing this review). I need to know what the business is with the Opus Nostrum organisation.

After feeling as though he let his team and the Order down when he brought a spy and killer into their home, Rafe thinks the only way to make amends is to take a mission that puts him deep undercover. Only his parents and a few higher-ups know that he really hasn’t parted ways with the Order. While it hurts to lie to his friends and teammates, he uses his cover to get in with a local gang with potential ties to the terrorist group, Opus Nostrum.

Devony’s entire family was killed in the Opus Nostrum attack on the London JUSTIS office, and she wants revenge. Working solo, she’s imbedded herself as a human in the same gang Rafe and the Order have in their scope. When Rafe discovers she’s actually a rare Daywalker Breed female, the pair must decide if they can trust one another and work together to bring down a common enemy.

Break the Day is a typical Midnight Breed story filled with action and romance. The stakes are high, keeping the adrenaline pumping as our main characters race against time to ferret out the Opus Norstrum connections. This is definitely a good one for fans of the series. I really enjoyed the pairing of Devony and Rafe. Both feel isolated because of recent events, and although there is a strong mutual attraction, they bond over their situation as well. I like that (most of) the truth about why they are each with the gang comes out quickly. Working together, they are a great team, and it affords them the opportunity to explore their desires.

The story is another good one, but there is still so much unknown about Opus Nostrum. The story did give some answers to questions raised in earlier books, but the larger story arc didn’t really progress. Regardless, it was still an exciting story. However, there are a couple of things about these stories that are starting to wear on me. First - I get annoyed that the hero always feels he is not worthy of the female lead, and he constantly is thinking or saying something to that effect. Second - the author spoon feeds the reader every emotion and thought. We are told exactly where the characters stand rather than actions speaking for themselves or providing inference.

Narration: Ms. Huber provides a lovely narration for the title. Her narrator voice is very matter-of-fact and straightforward and even shifts slightly between the two POVs (Rafe and Devony). His narrator is a bit rougher and clipped, while hers is softer. And every character has a unique voice. Ms. Huber supplies a large variety of fabulous accents. All-in-all an enjoyable performance.

My Ratings:
Story: B/B-
Narration: A-

“Break the Day” is a must read! Book 16 of Adrian’s famed Midnight Breed series is an action
packed read! After what felt like a long wait after Aric's book, this one was definitely worth it! I loved this storyline and the characters!

Daywalker Devony Winters is a strong heroine with a vengeance of her own against Opus Norstrum. Same as Breed Rafe Malabranche who recently had been wronged by the organization. They both meet with a common goal of taking down the organization and work together to accomplish their goal. Their personalities are each unique and their attraction to one another is magnetic. It is a beautiful love story between the two and the storyline challenges Rafe and his bounds and ties to his family, The Order.

For those of you who have read the previous books in the series there are loose ends tied up and explained in this book and a few appearances from other Order members! Always nice to see the elders return.

If you have not read the series previous novels or novellas it is still understandable and worth the read!
I look forward to reading Adrian’s Edge of Darkness book 3 her Hunter Legacy series hopefully this year and book 17 of Midnight Breed hopefully next year!

Xander Raphael Malenranche “Rafe” is the son of Dante & Tess.

I’ve been waiting for AGES for his book 😍😍, when you think about it he’s the 1st born of the new generation from the original order.

He has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders and big shadows to get out from. He has loads of respect for the OG order and due to the Montreal incident felt he let them down and is out to redeem himself.

Devony (Dee-vony/ Devon-ie?!?) Winters is a civilian female who’s family was a casualty of Opus Nostrum. She’s a strong character a compliments Rafe wonderfully. She wanted justice for what was done to her family and was willing to get it no matter the dangerous consequences.

What started off as seeking revenge and vindication for wrongs done, brought them that closer. Their chemistry and bonding is beautiful.

Revelations about Opus and just how insanely advanced they are in wreaking terror amongst everyone, and just how long their reach is within the community. The mystery of Opus and how the Breed deal with them is an addiction I can’t get enough of.

Yummy, fast paced and oh so enticing, can’t go wrong with this one 😆

This series is just sensational. The next generation of the Breed Warriors is a credit to their parents.

Rafe is feeling guilty about the disaster that occurred in the previous book. He now wants retribution and to achieve that, he risks his reputation.

Devony too, wants retribution for her losses. She will go to any length to get to those responsible for her pain.

After turning his back on the Order, Rafe infiltrates a gang which hopefully will lead him to the Opus Nostrum. He meets Devony who has her own agenda and a secret! Rafe turning up, unsettles what she has worked so hard to achieve. He could put her in danger if he uncovers her secret and since he has his own secret, everything could take a turn for the worse. Can they trust each other with their secret and hope for the best?

Rafe is very charismatic. He plays his part very well. Devony is strong and determined. The chemistry between them is sizzling. They have to go through so many hoops to get what they are after.

This book takes off from the first page and is breathtaking right until the end. Dante is one of my favourite character in this series and his son, Rafe isn't far behind. I absolutely love this series.

I was kindly issued with an eARC and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Fantastic Continuation Of Dark Great Longstanding Series.

I've waited a long time for Rafe's story, I remember reading Tess and Dante's story in paperback form a long time ago as one of the beginning books in this wonderful long running series. For newbies to this series(spoiler) their his parents. Rafe's story really began in the prior book when he was tricked by an Opus operative. This deception changed him, and not for the better. He became bitter and single minded in his need for revenge and to bring down Opus Nostrum, the global shadow cabal that want to run the world 🌎 according to their views. It's during an undercover mission that he meets Devony, she's not only a breed female but a "daywalker" as well. She's an extremely special female to his race.
This story moves quickly and the plot keeps the reader guessing when it comes to what's going to happen next with Opus Nostrum. Will the Order finally get some answers and hopefully make some gains against this global evil? When it comes to the way Rafe and Devony's relationship develops it brought a smile to my face, as the similarities and the missteps Rafe makes is so much like his father. Overall a great series addition. I'm anxiously awaiting Micah's story, he is Teagan and Elise's son. His team has been mentioned in the last two books as being on a covert mission and going dark. Perhaps Ms. Adrian is hinting that a big showdown is finally going to happen between the Order and Opus Nostrum. A dedicated series fan can hope!

This book was nonstop packed with heat, action, and surprises. Lara Adrian again delivers an amazing breed story expanding further into the new generation of Breed Warriors especially against their enemy Opus Nostrum. In this book we uncover Dante's son Rafe, and the aftermath from Aric's book and watch him finally start to recover and go after his goal of figuring out who is behind Opus Nostrum. We also meet Devony, another daylighter who's family was well respected and involved with JUSTIS. We learn more about how many additional relatives are out their to the female gen-ones that Dragos created back in the Dark Times. Devony is a strong and miraculous women and has an ability that we have not seen the likes of through out the series even back to the originals. Rafe and Devony make a great team and the love that builds between them of course takes its time till they both realize they have been lying to themselves and are only better with each other. We see Rafe be willing to give up the order which has been his life and dream to be with the woman he loves. Of course Opus Nostrum is still at large at the end of the book but the order has more information than they did before. In the end we see Tess's vision she saw in Mira's eyes come full circle and Dante and Tess welcome Devony with open arms and are glad she is in Rafe's life. Thanks again Lara for continuing to write these action and romance paranormal books. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

Break The Day is Rafe, Tess and Dante’s son from book two, and Devony, a Daywalking Breedmates story. In the previous book Rafe was entranced by a siren and feels a lot of guilt for how he believes he let The Order down. Now he’s undercover to find out more about Opus Nostrum and redeem himself. Devony is working her own investigation into Opus Nostrum posing as a human thief. These two team up, pool their info and fall in love.

Break The Day is an example of how this series never gets old. I loved sexy, smoldering, “I need to redeem myself” Rafe while Devony was completely her own bada$$. These two had sparks on sparks on fire attraction and I loved it. BTD moved the Opus story along brilliantly as I feel we are heading towards a full on battle. Plus the OG Order members just make me happy.
