I have been a heavy romance reader for over 20 years....and one of my first and always loves is paranormal romance, specifically shifter romance with a (fated) mates trope. So when I saw this book reviewed by my friend Leigh, I was all over it.

Was it original and earth-shattering? No.
Did it hit this girl's PNR shifter romance spot? Like a dream.

Plus, this is a new-to-me author with a decently sized backlist I can now go forth and pillage. So all in all, a solid win all around.

My thoughts:

"5- Fighting Blood & Bone for what belongs to you stars!"

 photo BloodBone_eBook_HiRes.jpg

I LOVED this story so hard!
It had EVERYTHING I love in a paranormal romance!

√ Kick-Ass alpha protagonists
√ Killer chemistry and history between the protagonists
√ Great secondary characters
√ Amazing storyline
√ Wonderful writing, with great bantering, and dialogue

I loved Ian and Chloe's story!
They were a wonderful couple to read, and their story had me entertained and engaged right till the very end.

If you've never read anything by C.C. Wood, I highly recommend that you pick up one of her books and give it a go.
You won't be disappointed!

This book is a spin-off of her "Bitten Series".
It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend you read the Bitten Series to get the full appreciation of the history that's transpired between the protagonists and the world they live in.

Finished in one sitting! I can't tell you when was the last time that happened!! This book was SO GOOD I couldn't put it down!!

Blood & Bone is a spinoff of C.C. Wood's "Bitten Series". Spinoffs can go two ways. Spiraling down down down to wherever lost books go, or spin up up up like a propeller. Well Charlie Tango, ...CC Knocked this one out of the park!

Blood & Bone stars two amazing characters from the "Bitten Series". Ian Lachlan & Chloe MacArthur. You don't have to have read the "Bitten Series" to enjoy this (though it's an incredible series and book 1 is free so it's kind of a no brainer! Go click!!! I'll leave the links below)

In regular CC fashion, this is a smart and sexy read. One of my favorite things about CC's books are the women she writes. Always intelligent, strong, and just the right amount of snarky and Chloe is no exception. This ex-pack enforcer is tough and on a mission.

"To save her heart from further pain, she leaves the pack that she's come to consider her family. Unfortunately, unfinished business leads her back to her childhood home and straight into a deadly game with shifters that will do anything to prevent her from learning the truth. "

Sexy Lach (Ian Lachlan) has recently had his heart decimated... an ex-pack alpha that follows Chole only to realize that maybe it's not all about friendship. Their attraction to each other is so heartwarming and beautiful that it made me smile. He's attentive, sensitive, strong, and domineering when he needs to be. I love when an author writes a strong heroine, then creates such a perfect match for them without taking away from her character. CC Nailed it! Their romance and their impending struggles leap off the pages and make it almost impossible to put this book down.

If para is your thing you really need to read this book!! If Para isn't typically your thing this could change the way you look at this genre forever. Two strong characters battle to put the past behind them while they wrestle with the possibility of what the future may hold... This book gets five blazing stars for an amazing start to what I'm already calling a must read romance series.

I was immediately drawn into this book. The characters are GREAT (the wolfs are fantastic)! The chemestry between Chloe and Ian is awesome. This is a must read book. The mystery is solid, characters are well defined (thank god) and the setting is believable. Not to mention hot sex scenes!
Bring on book 2!!!

Ian

Chloe

Her nonchalance and her indifference burned. It set off a chain reaction in my blood. I didn’t want to fight. I craved the chase. “I want you to run, Chloe.”
She frowned at me. “Run?” Her eyes flashed. “Why, so you can chase me?” Her tone was biting.
“Yes,” I hissed.

Chloe MacArthur has finally found her mate - alpha wolf Ian Lachlan, but rather than joy she is consumed by sorrow he's in no place to recognise or want what they are to each other. Still in mourning Ian Lachlan has gained comfort in his friendship with Chole, and when she leaves the pack heading straight for trouble and danger he is determined to protect her and ensure she comes out alive.

I do enjoy a PNR romance, it's one of my favourite genres, this didn't give me anything new but what was given engaged me, it was overall an enjoyable read. I just wish the chemistry between the main characters sizzled and sparked more, and that there had been an intensely compelling scene once Lachlan realised what Chole truly meant to him.

Chole's gran seems like a very interesting character, wish she had been in more scenes.

This is the first book I've read by this author and several of these characters are featured in another series so there is an ongoing story. This reads fine as a stand alone but once in a while there are events or people that I didn't know.

Chloe found her mate in Lachlan, too bad he'd just lost his own mate a few weeks before. He is heartbroken, grieving and has lost the will to live. She bullied him to eat, nurses him back to health, and is there to support him. Too bad he's so caught up in his own pain that he can't see past his own nose to sense anyone else's pain. Chloe decides its time to leave when it becomes obvious that this relationship is going nowhere. Lachlan has even said that he'll never mate again.

Chloe leaves back to her old pack to go solve the mystery of her parent's murders. (There wasn't much mystery to it). Lachlan discovers that she is in danger and goes after her. He cooks up some lame story about how they'll "pretend to be mates" to throw everyone off the real reason they are there. Poor Chloe just can't catch a break with clueless Lachlan.

I like shifter books but I'm picky about how the whole mates thing is handled. I didn't really like how it was done in this story. I guess that it's rare but not unheard of for a wolf to find 2 mates in a lifetime. Also Lachlan's first mate was a witch who saw her own death and wrote a note to Lachlan telling him to move on and love again. Then there's Lachlan who seemed very selfish to me. Yes, his mate died, but Chloe's parents had also recently died and he didn't care about anyone's pain but his own. In his internal dialogue he says that his body craves and lusts after Chloe and he should move on sexually but that his heart will never move on so it wouldn't be fair to Chloe to use her for her body. Then just a few pages later, he's humping her in the meadow. Dude, what is up with you?!? And poor Chloe who is the enforcer of her pack and a total badass, turns into a pathetic woman who will take whatever she can get from her mate, even if it breaks her heart when they inevitably separate. I just wasn't feeling the love from Lachlan for most of the book.

Stuff happens, battles are fought, attempted rape, murder. By the end, Lachlan has come to realize that Chloe is his mate and he gives a very nice speech about how much he loves her. I bought it in the end, but I wish it hadn't taken so long.

All in all, a decent shifter book that I got free on Amazon.

This was, simply put, very well written with all the necessary ingridients to make a fantastic adventure filled with action, demanding alphas, a little bit of a drama and angsty anticipation of waiting for the main characters to open up fully to one another and finally express to each other, what we, the readers, have known and waited for to happen from the very first pages...LOL, and to see it happen in a HEA.

Hallelujah...I say

If you are a fan of Suzanne Wright's packs of wolf-shifters, dominant alphas and fantastically badass she-wolves heroines, then this book, which is the beginning of the same called series, Blood & Bone will also be a winner for you.

enjoy!

4 stars. This was a good book! I had not read anything by Ms. Wood before, but I won this book from a giveaway and it sounded really good. This was a wolf shifter book, and it ranked right up there with my favorite shifter books by Suzanne Wright.

This is Chloe and Ian Lachlan's book. Chloe lost her parents and left her pack because she was suspicious of their deaths, but the pack didn't want her investigating. She joined another pack and found a home there. When she arrived she met Ian, who had recently lost his mate and was wasting away. She knew right away that he was her mate. She helped nurse him back to health, and fell in love with him, but never told him he was her mate, and he never recognized it. Now, 18 months later, Ian is healthy and they are friends, but she has given up hope that he will ever move on from losing his first mate and recognize her as more than a friend. So she leaves the pack to return to her old pack to try to secretly investigate her parents' deaths. When Ian finds out, he is worried for her so he follows her to her old pack. They agree that to keep Chloe safe, he will pretend to be her mate and help her investigate under the guise of "visiting" her old pack. Someone begins threatening her and danger lurks around them. Ian begins to see he is attracted to Chloe as more than a friend. Though he feels guilty at first, he soon realizes that his mate would have wanted him to move on after her death. He gives into his attraction and asks Chloe to help him move on. As they spend time together and are attacked by evil packmembers, Ian realizes he loves Chloe and wants to be with her forever, regardless of whether she is his mate. When Chloe's life is threatened, he realizes they are actually mates. They are able to solve the mystery of her parents' death and have their HEA too.

"Finding one's true mate over the course of a lifetime was amazing. Surviving their death even more difficult. But to have a second mate, it was a blessing beyond comprehension. It was rare."

I really liked Chloe and Ian. Often times the "dead ex" trope doesn't work for me, but I never felt like Ian really saw Chloe as second best. He was very sweet with her. They had great chemistry and hot sexy times together. I felt bad for Chloe because she doubted that Ian would ever take another mate and was still willing to accept whatever time he gave her before he moved on. But Ian never tried to make her feel that way; it was more her own fears and insecurities talking.

I was a little confused about how mating works in this world. It seemed like more of a choice to accept a fated mating bond, where in other books I've read, if you do not accept a fated mating bond, you go crazy with lust and die. So I wish there was a bit more clarification on that. Also, I wanted a bit more conversation from Ian at the end where he actually told Chloe why he loved her or what he loved about her. I would have also liked a jump ahead epilogue so we could see what their lives were like together back at their own pack. There is an epilogue, but it focuses on the next couple in the series.

Overall, though, I did really enjoy this book! I liked seeing Ian and Chloe's relationship develop. I will definitely be reading more from this series and Ms. Wood in the future!

Chloe and Lachlan's story! Yay!

I am kicking myself that I did not realize this book already came out. In fact, three books in this series are out. The only good thing about missing the fat they were already released is that now I can read the books back to back.

I liked this story of Ian (Lachlan) and Chloe. I didn't love it, probably because Ian already had a mate he was in love with before Chloe. I think that is the only reason why I didn't find this one give stars. But the good news is that we get to meet new characters in this book like Carter, who I have a feeling will have his own book *crossing fingers*

I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of the story but the romance didn't capture me.I loved how tough and fierce Chloe was as a shewolf. She was strong and fought for what was right and didn't back down from anyone. Ian is trying to slowly move on after losing his former mate. He's attracted to Chloe but doesn't want to betray his dead mates memory. With the way this was set up I was expecting to have all these feels but it didn't happen. I couldn't feel the connection between the main couple. I know they were apart of the other series so I'm not sure if reading those books would have helped me enjoyed their story better? The couple went through a lot to be together but it just wasn't connecting for me. At one point they said they would take it slow and every other chapter they were in bed together and that had me scratching my head. The paranormal aspect of the story did hold my attention and that was enjoyable. The story in itself was well written but my main issue was I couldn't feel the connection with the main characters. I will most likely continue with the series.

Blood & Bone is my first book by C.C. Wood but definitely not my last. I found this book on my Kindle while trying to find something to read. When I checked GR none of my friends had read it so I figured why not take a chance. I am so happy I did because I really enjoyed this book and it's why I still love PNR. Blood & Bone is a spin-off series but it read fine as a stand alone, although I do want to read the original series because I liked all the characters and I would love to read their stories. So basically this story is about a wolf Lachlan that lost his mate in the original series and he is barely existing. Chloe is a badass she wolf enforcer in his pack who cares for him but what Lachlan has no idea about is that he is her mate. I loved Chloe, she is strong, loyal and caring but when it comes to Lachlan there is a vulnerability that is so easy to relate to. Lachlan is super sexy and although he struggles with his feelings he doesn't try to push her away. I thought the letter from Belinda really helped him with moving on. Overall very good book and I look forward to more.

Don't you just love it when a book puts a big smile on your face? I do. And Blood & Bone did exactly that.
I was so invested in reading about Chloe and Lach, I didn't even have to pretend not to hear other people who tried to talk to me.
The story was full of funny quips, great action and interesting characters I would really like to know more about. But first things first... Right, Rhys? *happy sigh*

"You could never hide from me, you know that? Peaches and honey. I'd recognize your scent anywhere."

I've been searching for a wolf adult romance read, living up to my Twilight and Teen Wolf days.
This was alright, not anything special or wow, but entertaining.
A quick, easy straight forward plotline.

Second chance mate romance, betrayal of pack, murder mystery and honestly more heavily on the romance.
I love Chloe was such a badass fighter instead of a whining wolf.
Lack has his moments, and he is slowly becoming the alpha people knew he is and coming into terms of his chemistry with Chloe.

A little predictable, but entertaining and sweet.

I didn't ask him what he'd dreamed about because I knew. His nightmares were always about the mate that he'd had and lost. The mate he would have given anything to hold once again. My heart broke for us both because we were never going to get what we yearned for most- the other half of our soul."

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. I liked that things weren't always easy, things didn't just line up perfectly for the couple, but they had to deal with heartache and loss and other emotions before they finally made it into each other's arms in the capacity they were meant to.

Once I got into this story, I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting because of all the little twists and turns and trying to figure out where things were going to end up.

I will say that I didn't even know that there was another series that this one spun off from until I sat down to write my review, but you bet I'll be picking it up. I really enjoyed the way there was a great plot along with characters that had depth and grew through out the story along with a little bit of sexiness too.

This is the first book of a spin-off series of author C.C. Wood's "Bitten" series. You could read it as a standalone, but you'd understand it so much more if you read the Bitten series first. And honestly it's one of my favorite paranormal series, so you really should read it.

In the end of the Bitten series, Lachlan, alpha of the wolf pack lost his mate. When that happens, often the other mate will die too, from a lack of a will to live. But Lachlan has a friend Chloe, (the pack enforcer) who forced him to eat, get out of bed, and live. Now It's been two years and still Lachlan has not been able to get over the loss of his mate. For a wolf to be given another mate in their lifetime is extremely rare.

While Chloe was trying to nurse Lachlan back to health, she realized she was Lachlan's mate. But with him still pining after his dead mate, it was painful to continue to be around him. She also received news that the deaths of her parents years earlier may not have been caused by rogue wolves as was originally believed.

Now that Lachlan was stronger, her pain at knowing he would never want another mate for the rest of his life, combined with her desire to find out who was behind her parents' deaths, drove her to leave the pack. Not being able to say goodbye to Lachlan, she left without telling him. But she never expected him to come after her.

To hide her true reason for returning to the pack where she was raised, Lachlan came up with a plan that to tell everyone she told him she was his mate and he rebuffed her since he was still mourning his previous mate but now was trying to win her back. Lachlan had no idea how much truth was behind that cover story. Agreeing to pretend that cover story was even more painful for Chloe because Lachlan truly only saw her as a friend and only wanted to be there to help protect her.

Would Lachlan ever heal the loss of his former mate and form feelings for Chloe? Will Chloe get the answers she is looking for about who is behind the murder of her parents? Well, you'll have to read the book to find out!

This book completely sucked me in and I started and finished it in the same day. I simply could not put it down. Once again C.C. Wood has knocked it out of the park with a quality story, well developed characters and an HEA. The epilogue gives us a taste of what the next book in the series will be about, and I can't wait to read it!

I was generously provided an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

The grief of losing a mate is overwhelming and all consuming, not only to the surviving spouse but to their friends and family as well.

For Chloe, watching Lachlan fade away after losing his wife, it was devastating. Lachlan is her mate. A lucky few have two mates during their lifetimes but she knows that Lachlan isn't in mindset to entertain the idea of loving someone else.

Knowing that leaving is the only way to move on with her life, and to find answers regarding her parents deaths, she changes packs and goes home. Only to find that the pack she left is entirely different than the one she comes home too.

When Lachlan shows up unannounced, Chloe believes that he's only there because of her grandmother and not because he cares for her.

When the pieces of the puzzle start falling into place, Lachlan has to make a decision: hold on the past or take a chance on the future.

Chloe MacArthur leaves he pack she considers as her family because even though she has found her mate, he is not available. So she goes to her childhood pack as she has unfinished business there - but will she make it through the deadly game with shifters that are determined to keep the truth from her? Ian Lachlan lost his mate nearly two years ago and is still alive thanks to Chloe looking after him. Now she is the one that needs help and he is determined to step up to the challenge and help her. Being in close quarters with her he suddenly realises that he wants more than friendship with her. Can they get to the bottom of the mystery and can they take a chance with each other

I loved this story. It involved some of the characters from the Bitten series and it was nice to see them in a different story and different setting. I enjoyed the will they, won't they aspect of the story and the drama involved in both the unfinished business between Chloe and her childhood pack, and the potential relationship between Chloe and Lach. Everything was well written and I felt as if I could really understand and relate to all of the emotions in the story.

I was excited to start the first installment in the Blood & Bone series, a spin off of the Bitten paranormal romance, which I loved! Ms. Wood's novels have become synonymous with hot chemistry, swoony alpha males and the sassy women who bring them to their knees. That is exactly what we got with Blood & Bone. Chloe and Lachlan were so fantastic together. Not only did I find this novel to be sexy but I loved the heartfelt emotion between them. His novel was a winner and I can't wait for the second book!

While this novel was the first in a spinoff series of the Bitten series, Blood & Bone is a complete standalone. Set on a mission to figure out the truth about the death of her parents, Chloe McArthur decides to leave the MacIntire pack and Ian Lachlan, the widowed and wounded man she has been pining over for years in order to get the truth and much needed emotional distance to move on with her life. But what happens when said wounded alpha refuses to let her go and leave him? Will it be too late for Lachlan and Chloe or will they he able to protect her from enemies and move on with her and their future.

C.C. Wood is a fabulous author and I could not get enough of this book. Her stories are so compelling and addicting and I really can't get enough. She has become an auto one-click author for me and I can't wait to read book two from her in July! Bravo! 4 stars ~Ratula

This book was amazing, just amazing I tell ya!! With the help of his friend Chloe, Lachlan is attempting to recover from a devastating loss even while dealing with one of her own. But during that time she comes to a shocking realization that will change everything. But before that can happen she's ready to get some answers and seek justice for what's she's lost. In the process she learns that people aren't always who they seem and you never know who you should trust. If they survive could fate finally be on their side?

Blood & Bone is the first book in the spin-off series of C.C. Wood's Bitten series, while it can be read as a standalone, I think it might be much more enjoyable if you've read the Bitten books. Some of those characters make appearances in the story, and if you're like me you'll want to know them too. Trust me, these characters (especially the females) are characters you'll want to get to know. They're pretty awesome.

In the Bitten series, we are introduced to Chloe McArthur. She's a total badass she-wolf that can hold her own in any fight. We also got to meet Lachlan. He was alpha until he lost his mate in a battle against an evil group of supes that tried to enact their plans of world domination. Since then, Chloe has been doing what she can to keep Lachlan from giving up on life. Her take no prisoners attitude comes in handy in bossy this alpha around when it comes to eating and just doing the mudane things to keep him active.

Now that he's showing signs of improvement, she feels it's time to get back to some family matters she had to set aside. But when she leaves, Lachlan realizes just how important she is to him and feels it's his duty to be there for her, like she was for him.

Among the mystery solving and danger they face these two learn more about each other and their relationship evolves into a bond that can't be broken.

They're shared chemistry is top notch and C.C. Wood's storytelling is absolutely stellar. I'm so happy to get to see more of the characters from her Bitten series. She's officially hooked me on PNR romances; especially after breaking my werewolf romance cherry. She'll always be remembered as my first and I'm looking forward to much more from this series. I can't wait!

FAVORITE QUOTES:
Shee looked fierce, cold, and frighteningly beautiful. An angel of death waiting for her moment to claim those who she deemed worthy of punishment.

"Please don't make me live without you, Chloe MacArthur," I pleaded. "I'm begging you."

"Wherever you are, that's where my home is. Home is in the heart and soul, not a place on a map."

"You are in my blood and bones, Chloe MacArthur. Without you, I would be an empty shell."

I think I have read pretty much every book C.C. Wood has put out and this one definitely has to be my favorite! From the very start I was hit with a deep emotional impact that had me certain I would love every page till I got to the end and Lachlan and Chloe got the HEA they deserved.

Chloe and Lachlan's story is beautiful and hard, after the deaths of her parents she ran and in the process found the broken Lachlan who was wasting away after the death of his mate. She forced his to eat, to get out of bed and somewhat live again. All the while knowing deep in her heart that he was her mate, her one love, and knowing that after the pain of his first mate's death he would never be open to taking another mate. Knowing it was time to move on, Chloe leaves without warning to finally solve the mystery surrounding the deaths of her parents. Only Lachlan does something she never expected . . .  he follows her.

'The dreams were as heartbreaking as always because I knew it would never happen. He'd lost his mate nearly two years ago. In the haze of his grief, he would never know that he was supposed to be mine.'

Blood & Bone truly took me on a journey of emotions. My heart ached for the pain of unrequited love that Chloe had to endure but was also overjoyed at seeing a female being portrayed so fiercely. Chloe is an enforcer in her pack and can fight as hard as any of the men and most likely come out on top. I loved the contrast of her soft and hard sides. She was everything I love in a female heroine!

Lachlan! OMG I loved him. He was absolutely amazing. Even when he didn't know the power of his feeling he knew he needed to be near Chloe. His was a hard ride, watching him move part the death of his first mate and overcome the fear of what could happen if he took on a new one.
Overall, this is a top notch paranormal shifter book. If you are a fan of shifters than this is one you need to read and if you are on the fence of diving into the shifter world I honestly believe this is a perfect way to test the waters.

Blood & Bone was full of heat, heart and a ton of action. Do not muss this one.

I was a very lucky girl who won an ARC of this book ! I could not put it down. It is a spin off from her "Bitten series" another of her paranormal series which I got hooked on. Not only does it have a kick-ass sexy heroine but a sexy alpha male who needs a little but kicking. While part of a series it is one you can pick up and read in one sitting. You get the complete story but also get to catch up on a few of her previous characters like yummy Finn with his gorgeous eyes. C.C. is not afraid to give us a sexy, strong woman who can handle challenges on her own but also isn't afraid to lean on those she loves for a little extra help and support. If you enjoy a good paranormal romance with a sweet but sassy love story than this is your book. I am a fan of C.C. and look forward to her next book. I'm not giving away any spoilers so do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. You will love it. My only complaint was it left me wanting to read the next book now and not wait for it to come out.

What an excellent beginning to a new series!
Lachlan is a man who is barely surviving the loss of his mate. Chloe helps him the best she can before leaving the pack she has been with since her parents died two years ago. Without a word to him, Chloe leaves on a quest ( with the help of her grandmother) to find out who killed her parents and why. After an odd visit from a neighboring pack, Lachlan goes to find her feeling she was in danger from them. Being the strong woman that she is, she refuses his help, but her grandmother insists he helps. What they find is a pack in fear of their leader, and thing not quite right all the way around.
These two have an amazing chemistry, and it was wonderful to watch how they found their way to each other. Loved the fact that this wasn't the "insta love" or "enemies to lovers" story, it was a story of respect and love.
This is a spin off from the Bite Me series, and what a good one it is! I highly recommend reading this whether you have read that one or not. Well done C. c. Wood!

4.5 stars I haven't read the bitten series yet, but I plan on it, so I get the background of Lach. This can be read as a standalone. Chloe is a tough she wolf and goes back to try and find out who killed her parents and also fleeing her feeling for her mate. Lach lost his mate 2 yrs ago and has been having a hard time with her death. He leaves his pack to go help Chloe find the killers of her parents and will he find that he has a second mate??? Something that is very rare but can happen. Well read the book and find out!!

I love this story, such strong characters and none of that half-baked 'he loves me, he loves me not' this feels like a real story and I would love to read more of them :-) I can recommend this to any one. Thanks C.C Wood for another great story!
