Bourbon Love Notes: A Small Town Single Dad Romance (The Barrel House Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
Heartbroken and seeking solitude on a flight home, I found myself unexpectedly beside Brett Pearson: a strikingly attractive single dad, ex-Marine, and an old family friend I once crushed on. Fate, it seemed, had other plans than letting me wallow in my sorrow.
Brett’s unexpected offer to assist with my family’s struggling distillery, The Barrel House, thrusts us together, challenging me to focus amidst my turmoil. As he shares his expertise on bourbon—a passion I never quite understood—I find myself distracted by more than just the craft; the curve of his lips, the depth in his voice, and our shared history pull at my heartstrings.
As we navigate the art of bourbon making, our past and present collide.
Can a love rekindled from the ashes of the past survive the secrets and sorrows that wait?
Bourbon Love Notes unfolds as a small-town, second-chance romance, steeped in angst and the promise of redemption.

Editorial Reviews
Review
"Easily one of my top reads for this new year and worthy of far more than five stars, it's impossible to read this consuming, emotional story without your heart being forever changed." - Book Addict Blog
"There was a moment in this book where I thought my heart wouldn't recover. I was ugly crying in my chair, and I started thinking of all the when's and what ifs of when my life will reach the point that Melody goes through in Bourbon Love Notes." Cranky - The Book Curmudgeon
"Wow I was not expecting an emotional angst filled read. For my first read by Shari J. Ryan this was a homerun for me. I found myself soaking up every word and swiping the pages as fast as I could, because I couldn't get enough." - Wicked Reads and Dreams
"The way the author written the story and make you feel the emotions, it's already a top favorite of 2020 for me! It's a story about love, loss, grieving and also family but had a vulnerability about it that had you really holding on for a good ending throughout. A must read and one that will rip your heart wide open but also in some way heal it in the end!" - Anne Goubert , Driven By Books (Top #15 Goodreads Reviewer)

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020First of all, I think it bears pointing out that the blurb on this book, while beautifully written, just scratches the surface and only hints at what's in store for the reader. Its done in such a way, though, that an astute reader will pick up on the undercurrent and realize that this one goes deep. This is a phenomenal, emotional read that I highly recommend, but knowing that some topics are sensitive for some readers, it's only fair to share that while this book is about finding love, it's about finding love in the midst and aftermath of loss, grief and pain.
Had I found this book a year ago after losing my father, or this past April after nearly losing my husband, I would not have been able to make my way through it. I’m not usually an emotional person and rarely cry over a book, but I had tears in my eyes most of the way through this one.
Having said that, I saw every bit of the grief, pain and emotion that I had experienced through my own circumstances portrayed so accurately in this story, it’s as if the writer was looking deep into my soul and recording what she saw, right down to the paralyzing fear and the compulsive busyness in an effort to escape thoughts and feelings. It’s so superbly done and beautifully handled that all of those feelings welled back up to the surface, with my heart suspended in a bitter sweetness, then leaving me with a closure so effective that a calming peace and joyful gratitude are all that remained.
I can always, always count on a heart-rending, poignant journey when reading this lady's work. She has a way of infusing her heart and soul into her manuscript that reaches deep inside the reader and makes her books an all-consuming experience, rather than simply a ‘read’. I feel like my emotions have been pureed in a blender, but I’m left with characters who will live forever in my soul, a quiet fulfillment, and a sense that a part of me is transformed for having had this experience.
Melody and Brett's story is stunning and powerful, and the symbolism between the bourbon-making process and personal relationships is meaningful and memorable. This story is gut-wrenching and sorrowful, yet shares profound insights into loss and grief while offering wisdom on healing, celebrating life, and reclaiming happiness. Easily one of my top reads for this new year and worthy of far more than five stars, it’s impossible to read this consuming, emotional story without your heart being forever changed.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 17, 2020Overall it was a good story, even brought me to tears at times. But it feels like something was missing as far as the romantic connection. I get that Melody had a crush on Brett as a teenager but we're just supposed to believe his feelings were reciprocal? That she's been the girl of his dreams for 10 years but he doesn't even recognize her when they first see each other at the airport? Maybe it would help if the story was dual POV but I just didn't understand the crazy connection the author was trying to sell.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2020When Melody receives a letter in the mail from her father saying not to open until he was gone she called home immediately. She learned her father was sick again so she dropped everything and rushed to be with her family. Her boyfriend didn't act like she was hoping and things weren't working out between them so on the way home she ended things with him. One the plane home she meets a man that is going the same way she is and they chat a bit. He ends up giving her his number in case she wants to call him and they go their separate ways at the airport. Once she was home she joined her mom and sister as they surrounded her father to spend time with him before they lost him. When she goes into the family's business she runs into the man again and realizes its her crush from when she was growing up. Will this time home give her a second chance with Brett?
This is an emotional story about a daughter coming home to her father dying and wanting to be there for her family. During this time she finds a second chance at love with a man she used to have feelings for when she was younger. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020Ummm... Can Brett Pearson be real? Please!?? *swoon*
Im so very in love with this story! Shari J. Ryan did an amazing job of taking this heart breaking story and adding in some light humor to break up the tears. She really has a way with words and pulls me into her stories. Bourbon Love Notes was no exception!
Shari does an amazing job of describing what one may go through during a very close loss, the feelings and emotions are so very spot on. The closeness and strength that Melody and her family share is incredible throughout this story.
I love the interactions between the main characters, Melody and Brett as well. Their story is quite a sweet escape in the wake of such devastation. Their light banter with one another was my favorite parts of the story. I often would laugh out loud at one of their interactions, shortly after wiping away tears and blowing my nose. It greatly helped balance the raw emotions that came through.
Shari J. Ryan is a favorite of mine, and Bourbon Love Notes was no exception. I'm hoping to get more of this one... maybe Melody's sister Journey's story!??
- Reviewed in the United States on October 29, 2020Bourbon Love Notes is the first book in Shari J. Ryan’s The Barrel House, and while this is a second chance romance, I didn’t feel the connection with Melody’s character that other readers did. Melody came across as someone in love with the idea of being in love and not genuinely desiring a relationship with Brett. There was also a lack of sincere grief at her father’s passing as she presented as self-absorbed. Brett’s character was likeable enough, but the romance for me was non-existent in this drama packed story. I’ll read the next in the series before I decide whether to give this series a miss.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2020Bourbon Love Notes is the first book I have read by Shari J. Ryan and to be honest I had no idea what to expect. This book took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and I know this one will stay with me for a while. I enjoyed reading this book and will check out more of Shari J. Ryan's books in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've been taken on an emotional rollercoaster
This book covers some really sad topics, but it does so well and with empathy. It's a love story that has spanned over more than a decade, but now although it's a bad time...it's the right time for them.
