Love Bite by Tiffany Ransier

I absolutely loved this book! I started it one night and actually finished it before I put it down again ~ it was that interesting and engaging. I love paranormal romances, but this one is a little different from all of the others, in a great way! I can’t wait to read more of this story as there just has to be more, after that ending, which left me wanting more! This was my first book I’ve read of Tiffany Ransier’s and I’m glad I’ve found another really great author to follow.

Sound by Maya Daniels

Sound is part of the Darkness Rising anthology and, as such, has only part of the story. This is a travesty, I tell you, because I need the rest of it right now! This is the bare bones of the story which leaves me wanting oh so much more.

Melody is in a bit of a pickle and Ethan 😉 is just the vampire to save her. Throw in two friends, two brothers, a wicked witch, and a fish-breathed cat, and you have all the components of this story.

This was a great read but I would definitely recommend you read Last Note first, just to get you up to date with what is going on in here. Fantastic as part of the box set but I really can't wait for the full novel to be released. Absolutely recommended by me.

* A copy of this book was provided to me with no requirements for a review. I voluntarily read this book, and the comments here are my honest opinion. *

I love this boxset! The first book, written by Becca Blake, is an edgy dark fantasy... which I love!!! It's worth buying for that book alone but there's so much more for only 99 cents!

Love Bites ------- Absolutely loved the forbidden love portrayed in this story. The fact that it's got supernatural beings makes it even better. And the fact that they have to run for their lives while having a forbidden romance makes it the best. So ready to see how this turns out!

This review is solely on Becca Blake’s Blood King novella. Review of the other box set stories to come later as read.
Nero and Neryssa are twins and at the age of 10 their life is shattered by seeing the execution of their parents and narrowly missing being executed along side them. The twins were shunned and treated unkindly and after their maturity the orphanage tossed them out in the street. Bitter and unable to obtain work Nero is now being hunted by the authorities for stealing from a docked ship that he now knows belongs to the Royal family, the very same who executed his parents for treason. Running from authorities Nero stumbles across a man with fangs and blood on his mouth holding a lifeless body. Nero tries to run away but the stranger is too quick and he finds himself at yet another life altering space in time with the choice of either joining the Blood King in a vampire city or death. This well written dark fantasy storyline is fast paced with good world building and character development which includes vampires, slaves, angst, danger, survival, and ultimate betrayals. The Blood King is a prequel novella to the author’s Reign of Blood dark fantasy series. This is the first I’ve read of this authors work and I plan to read the next book in the series.
Happy Reading♥️
Publish Note: “Blood King is a fast-paced prequel novella to Becca Blake’s Reign of Blood dark fantasy series, and is available for a limited time EXCLUSIVELY in the Darkness Rising collection.”

Earth & Soul is the 4th book I've read written by Zoey Indiana; it’s part of the Darkness Rising Collection. She has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

This is an absolutely fantastic collection of amazing books by some very talented authors. I have read a couple books so far and couldn't get enough. One book I read is Love Bite by Tiffany Ransier. This story was really great and one I enjoyed from the start to the very end. Really, really liked the characters quite a bit and cant wait for more by this author. The next book I read is Medusa by JJ King. I enjoy this authors books so much and this one is at the top for me. Absolutely love the take this author did on the story of Medusa and just couldn't put it down. She has to figure out how to save her sister and willing to do whatever it takes.

I bought this book to read the one story by a favorite author of mine, Carly Marino. And she did such a beautiful job. Her book, Ocean Shadows, included in this boxset, was indeed an engaging story.

Cas, having seen his people, the Dwellers, banished to the depths of the sea where no light, no sun, was able to reach, wanted nothing more than to bring his people from the darkness into the light. If that meant, in turn, banishing the Merfolk to those same depths, so be it. Retribution, revenge, would taste sweet indeed, at this point in his life.

Then he meets the princess of the Merfolk, Vileia, and things begin to change. It is this change that brings about the entire story of the Dwellers versus the Merfolk and what they need to do to save all the peoples of the ocean.

I'm not going to give away the entire story. That would be very unfair and would ruin it for those who have yet to read it. And I do want everyone to read this incredible story. Carly created a beautiful world, one that sparks the imagination as to what does dwell below the surface of the sea. The bottom of the ocean is such a mystery to us ordinary folk who will never be able to venture those depths. Carly created a nation below that sounds equally as exciting as the reality is mysterious.

I haven't read all the stories yet, but of the ones I have read, this one stands out as one that fully captures the imagination and makes you dream of things that could be, that very well might be, going on at the bottom of the ocean. What a gift that is, to spark such imaginative creatures and civilizations that you find yourself lost in that world, feeling a part of that world, and wishing you could visit such a world.

Kudos to Carly Marino for her contribution to this boxset. I look forward to her next book, hoping perhaps she will expand on this microcosm and give us a series to enjoy created around this civilization. You did such a beautiful job, Ms. Carly Marino. I, of course, will continue to read the other stories in this boxset, but you set the bar so high I can't help but wonder if the others will be able to reach it.

So, Excellently Done, Carly, So Excellently Done Indeed! I couldn't have asked for more. I know this is a boxset, therefore containing much more than this one story, but this one author was the reason I bought it, so after her story, everything else is just fluff to fill the pages. While I will go through the remaining stories, none will capture me as this one did.

I thoroughly enjoyed CA King's short story in this collection, Shattered Reality. The story is a modern retelling of Medusa and Perseus, with Ms. King's unique spin. Control is the focus on Mudesa's world, since she lost control of things as a young girl. The death of her parent's forces her to return home and stay to fulfill the terms of their will. Along the way her life spins out of her control and her past reaches out to her, reflecting the truth. Through her journey she encounters her past, her memories and a persistent private investigator.
Ms. King's imagination knows no bounds and Shattered Reality is quite the imaginative story. It is fast paced and has an unanticipated twist at the end. Enjoy.

** This review is for Ocean Shadow by Carly Marino **
Five amazing stars for this awesome fantasy novel with mermaids, selkies, and everything in between.
Caspian is the king of the Dwellers, sea creatures who were banished by the Merfolk to live in the depth of the ocean without sun. His priority is to save his people from their awful condition. He should hate the Merfolk, but when he meets Princess Vileia, what he thought he knew about Merfolk starts to change.
I love the world building. It’s a fantastic blend of cool concepts with a fairy tale flavour. The romantic plot is breathtaking and the two protagonists are very likable and relatable.
Author Carly Marino never disappoints!
Looking forwards to reading more of this world.

Any Witch Way You Can by Rachel Rawlings This was great! The mystery, surprises, the thrill of the storyline all made for an exciting read. The characters are awesome, fit together perfectly. The storyline is a great YA, but the older crowd will enjoy it just as much. It held your attention so much, that I read it in one sitting. You could feel the emotions of each character and it was very easy to picture the scenes in your head.
I really enjoyed this book and it was left that there could be more down the line, I really hope so. I absolutely love this authors work and style of writing, I highly recommend her books

Sound by Maya Daniels

Melody, Viola and Harmony play music together…but, it is not ordinary music! At one place they played everyone ended up as dried husks. Melody just knows something is off about their music and them~ Etienne, Lucian and Moel are Royalty in the vampire world. Their father died and someone made it look as if they killed him. They take refuge in the United States and keep killing the assassins sent after them. Etienne meets Melody in a club one night and he is smitten. He keeps searching for her and ends up in an abandoned church where he discovers her violin. The three women have been taken by a woman named Seraphina and they have no clue why! All Melody does is drink a concoction and play music every day. When she discovers the plans made for her, what she is, what Etienne is, and the cat…a whole new world opens to her…but can she escape? Can Etienne help her escape? Will she live if she leaves? What about her friends? This is a new series unlike anything I have read before…you will not want to miss it~ There are many LOL moments in the book as well…I also love the fact that the hero in the book is not an OTT Alpha male…he has vulnerabilities even as a supe, which are very funny to read about in Maya Daniel’s world. I received this as an ARC and am leaving a voluntary review.

Medusa the Wronged by JJ King

We all know the story of Medusa but the author decided to give her story a different turn and it is AWESOME! From the beginning, the story is action-packed and fast-paced. I did not want to leave to even take a bathroom break it held my attention so much! The story is that Em (Medusa) and her two sisters became priestess’ to Athena. But, Em fell in love and Athena felt betrayed so she cursed her and those in her family. That is how Medusa became the monster of legends! But, her two sisters suffered the same fate. After two thousand years, and not having heard from their sister for 35 of those years, they found her in danger so they left for Greece.
They are forbidden to be in Greece after Em’s betrayal. They found their parents at their sister’s home and their sister dying. Poseidon also showed up, and he was the one Em fell in love with and he happens to also be Athena’s uncle. Em and Poseidon go on an adventure to seek the cure to save her sister. Along the way they seek out Hecate (once the goddess Selene of the moon). She told them they needed Athena’s blood to cure her sister. She also let them in on how everyone was cursed by her for Athena. But, Athena did not uphold her promise to Hecate! So, Em and Poseidon part ways after a bad argument ensued. Em found out the true reason Athena cursed her and her family…it was because of Poseidon! Em and her sister Thea travel to Athena’s temple to get her blood to save their sister. A huge battle ensues and Poseidon is also battling with Athena. What will happen? Will they save their sister? Will Poseidon or Athena die? Why did Athena really curse Em and her family? I know the real reason had my mouth hanging open! The book also contains a couple of really steamy scenes! I received this book for free and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Across the entire set, characters are exciting, flawed, lovable, and thrilling. There is something here for everyone, and I hope that readers of the anthology enjoy it as much as each author had while writing it!

**Review of Whitechapel, contributed by Jess Reece.**

Whitechapel is an alternate historical fantasy that blends with true crime and Greek mythology.

The Greek Furies, the titular daughters of Nyx, are changed with the protection of mankind and with the dispatch of justice. In Whitechapel, they find themselves in Victorian London, in pursuit of one of histories most notorious and disputed serial killers. Enjoy the mystery and intrigue - and some sister chemistry humor - as Alekto, Megaera, and Tisiphone track a killer who remains unnamed in our modern timeline.

** This review is for Whitechapel by Jess Reece.
I received an ARC of this story and this is my honest and voluntary review. OK, here’s the thing, I’d seen the teasers for this story as part of the Darkness Rising box set and was intrigued. Y’all, I begged for this story. I mean we’ve got the Furies hunting down Jack the Ripper. It hits my Greek mythology, history loving heart.
Ms. Reece did an enormous amount of research for this story. From all of the officers and surgeons involved, to the history of the Furies, to the letters, and victims attributed to Jack the Ripper. The details are spot on. But it’s not a dry history, this is a work of dark, gritty fiction. It’s wonderful. The writing sucked me it, at times I was a witness to what was going on, and at others, I was a participant. Such an intriguing whodunit! This is not for the faint of heart though. I’m not lying when I say it’s gritty. There’s a male rape scene (not a lot of description) and incest is revealed.
You’ve got great, descriptive writing, a cast of characters not only ripped from the pages of ancient Greece, but from 1888 London, and a plot that makes you wonder who the killer really is. It’s perfect for fans of whodunits!

There is a new anthology that I have had my eye one, I have already preordered Darkness Rising. It's filled with twenty-four fantasy and urban fantasy short stories. I was lucky enough to get an ARC of Any Witch Way You Can by Rachel Rawlings, which is one of the stories featured in the box set.

Any Witch Way You Can is a fun short story that centers on Ellie a witch with very little skill and a bad attitude but when her foster sister is discovered missing there is nothing she wouldn't do to save her.

So much is packed into this short story, there is murder, betrayal, tragic backstory, romance, and magic. Rawlings does a very good job developing the story and I don't feel as if I'm missing anything, the story feels complete if not a little rushed but that is what happens with short stories.

This isn't my first witchy read that Rawlings has written and I love how she blends magic into everyday life so seamlessly. I would love for Any Witch Way You Can to become a full novel and turn into a series, to see Ellie's reactions to the world around her. If this story is an example of what I can expect from the rest of the anthology then I can't wait to dig in.

Whitechapel by Jess Reece!

I love this story! In the world of Marvel and DC comics where the heros are dominated by men, this book introduces all the female power you could ever want. It dives deep into the murders committed by the infamous Jack the Ripper and how he is caught using some mysterious, yet clever ways by our heroines. This book delivers on greek mythology, suspense, thrills, and supernatural powers that are beyond perfect for our imagination. I love everything about this story. The personalities of each of the three girls and how each one of them has a special gift making them a unique secret weapon of the detectives working cases during this period. Please take every opportunity to read this story and let the author know how much you loved it and need the sequel soon!

I've just finished reading Maya Daniels Sound and absolutely loved it!!
Melody has a special gift that she shares with her two best friends Viola and Harmony. When they play their music, it has a power to kill those listening. Not understand the power and what it means, the girls agree to audition one more time together, thinking the worse is behind them.....they were so wrong! Now trapped and forced to play every night, Melody still hopes to find a way out but she could never have guessed what would actually happen!
It felt so refreshing and new to read this and I'm left wanting more!

Review for Blood King by Becca Blake

Loved, loved, loved this book. Having already read Blood Bound this was a great insight into the life and times of Nero and how he came to be king.
Great world building and the characters are well developed three dimensional individuals. I wasn't sure what to think of Nero in Blood Bound but I have definitely developed and attachment to him through this book.
Becca Blake knows how to tell a story and keep the reader engaged, quickly becoming a favourite.

I received an ARC copy of this book via booksprout and voluntarily leave this review.
