Chris Sununu is weighing into a contested Republican primary election in the northernmost state Senate district, backing state Rep. Erin Hennessey of Littleton over current GOP Sen. David Starr of Franconia in District 1.“The North Country will be well served with Erin Hennessey as state senator and I am enthusiastically supporting her,” said Sununu.“As a state representative and member of the Legislative Advisory Board of the Governor’s Office for Emergency Relief and Recovery, Erin has proven herself a strong leader and tireless advocate for families and communities.“No one works harder than Erin to help businesses, large and small, through these very challenging times and back to a thriving economy. I urge the citizens of the North Country to vote for Erin Hennessey for state senator.”Hennessey, a certified public accountant, is currently serving in her third term in the House and is a member of the House Finance Committee. She has served on a wide range of committees and commissions.“I am honored to receive Governor Sununu’s endorsement for my Senate race," she said. "I hope to continue working with Governor Sununu to block an income or sales tax, prevent business tax increases, help get North Country residents back to work, and make sure our schools and kids have the resources they need, especially in this challenging time."Hennessey is challenging Starr, who is currently in his first term, in the Republican primary on Sept. 8. State Rep. Susan Ford of Easton is the lone Democratic candidate.Hennessey is the third public state Senate endorsement by Sununu.
